Why Real Madrid Is The Best Team Left In The Champions League
The Round of 16 has finally concluded and the games were very entertaining and surprising. The top teams remaining as of now are: Real Madrid, Manchester City, Napoli, and Bayern Munich. Out of these teams, Real Madrid has looked the most promising and experienced squad. They could be the team to lead the way to gain consecutive titles.
Current Roster
Real Madrid have one of the best squad depths in the world. They can play a variety of solid lineups that can matchup well against any other team. Real have been struggling in La Liga and might not win the league title. However, remaining in the Champions League should boost their confidence to reach higher.
Madrid put on one of the greatest playoff campaigns of all time last year. They secured their 14th Champions League title and truly stunned the world. Led by veteran Karim Benzema, the Frenchman was a goal scoring machine to help them win the title. This allowed him to earn Balon d’or last year in what was a truly deserved award.
Benzema has put himself up as one of the greatest Champions League Strikers ever! His leadership to this squad has been instrumental for the younger players who are turning into superstars.
Real also has some of the best young players in the world. Led by Vinicius Jr, who is officially a superstar, he is the youngest player to score in every round of the Champions League. Vinny is an extremely talented Winger and is one of Real Madrid’s top goal scorers.
Federico Valverde has become one of the most creative and versatile midfielders in Soccer today. He seems to be getting better each game and has been a key player for Madird’s Champions league matches. His quick ability to mature on the field has come from playing alongside Luka Modric.
Modric has proved to be one of the best Midfielders of our generation. Winning a player of the year in 2018, he has been one of the most important players for Real Madrid’s recent 4 Champions League titles in the span of a decade.
Liverpool Series
Being down 2-0 in the first leg against Liverpool in Anfield was the turning point this year. After being down 2-0, Madrid went on to score 5 goals and win the match 5-2. They won again this past week in the second leg to close out the series and advance to the Quarter Finals.
Madrid showed absolute dominance in that game and proved why they could seriously go back to back as winners of the Champions League.
Los Blancos are currently third favorites to win the Champions League at +550. I think these odds are fantastic for the team they have and the prior experience that Madrid has shown the world.
