2022/23 English Premier League Season – All to Fight For in the League
The English Premier League 2022/2023 season will end on the 28th of May, 2023, and we can see teams fighting for the League title while some are fighting to escape from relegation. However, continue reading our article below to know all to fight for in the League.
The Relegation Battle
Almost all the English Premier League teams have played thirty-five matches from their 2022/2023 season fixtures, which means there are three matches before the season ends, and we can see five teams battling to escape from the relegation zone. Nottingham Forest, Everton, Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton are the teams.
Southampton sits 20th in League standings with twenty-four points and six points difference from Leeds United, who now sits 19th. However, Southampton will face Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Liverpool, which will be difficult for them to win the three games after they failed to secure a win against Nottingham Forest on Monday.
So, we expect them to relegate after being in the English Premier League for 18 years, in which they have relegated just once. On the hand, Leeds United sits 19th in the league standing, and their next three matches will be against Newcastle United, West Ham, and Tottenham Hotspur.
To escape from the relegation battle, they must win at least two matches from their last three, but it will also be challenging. Leicester City has had the worst season so far, and as a result, they sit 18th in the League standings with thirty points alongside Leeds United.
Leicester City also needs to win at least two matches to escape relegation. Still, their next three matches are challenging too, where they will face Liverpool, Newcastle United, who wants to secure a space in the UCL, and West Ham United.
Everton secured three points on Monday after a 1-5 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, and they moved to 17th. They have earned 32 points and must win two of their next three matches. After that, they would face Manchester City, Wolverhampton, and Bournemouth, and we expect them to earn six points from these games to escape relegation.
Lastly, Nottingham Forest secured three points on Monday, after a 4-3 victory over Southampton to move to 16th. They have earned 33 points and need to win at least one match to escape the relegation zone finally. Their last three games will be against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Crystal, which is challenging, but they will escape with three or four points.
The Four Horse Race for Europe
Teams are fighting to secure a space for the next UEFA Champions League tournament. However, Manchester City and Arsenal have secured a spot already, where they lead the teams below them in their standings with over fifteen points, respectively. Other teams include Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
The points difference between these three teams is close, so knowing who will join Manchester City and Arsenal in the European race will be challenging. Newcastle United sits 3rd in the league standings, earning 65 points.
However, they have four more matches to play, and they need at least six or seven points out of the possible twelve points to secure a space in the next UCL. On the other hand, Manchester United sits 4th in the league standing, earning 63 points.
Also, they have four matches to play and need at least nine points of the possible twelve points to qualify for the next UCL tournaments. Liverpool has played thirty-five matches, earning 62 points.
However, they must win the remaining three matches to qualify for the UCL tournament. Newcastle United and Manchester United have the upper hand because they have four games, but if they lose two, Liverpool can still qualify.
Manchester City and Arsenal Battle for First
Manchester City and Arsenal are the favorites to win the 2022/2023 EPL season. City is leading the Gunners with a point but has a game in hand, and if they win, they will go four points ahead. Arsenal’s next three games will be against Brighton & Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves.
However, Arsenal must win the remaining three matches to win the title since the 2003/2004 season. On the other hand, Manchester City must earn at least nine points from the possible twelve points to win and defend the title again. They will face Everton, Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Brentford, for their last four games of the season.
Our English Premier League Projection
Looking at the remaining games left for the end of the season, we expect Manchester City to win the title. On the other hand, teams like Southampton, Leeds United, and Leicester City are expected to relegate.
