New York Yankees vs. New York Mets Game Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions
The Battle For New York: Has the Tide Turned?
Yankees, Mets, Subway Series, Oh My!
The gift that keeps on giving. Tuesday, we are once again treated to another battle of New York supremacy with the New York Yankees taking on the New York Mets in another Subway series.
These battles have typically been more hype than actual competition, but this year is different. For the first time in Subway series history that both the Yankees and Mets come into this battle of New York 20 games above .500.
Bronx Bombers: Yankees Are Living Up to Their Name
Jordan Montgomery (3-2) takes the mound for the New York Yankees in this contest. So far this season, Montgomery has started 19 games for the Yankees, boasting a 3.24 earned run average with a 1.052 walks and hits per inning pitched.
In Montgomery’s 19 starts this season, The Yankees have a 9-10 record. On the road they have been even worse, winning only 3 out of 10 games he has started.
Offensively, the Yankees will look to ride Aaron Judge who is leading the league in home runs with 37.. As a team they are averaging a league leading 5.33 runs a contest with a .246 batting average, .332 on base percentage.
On the road the Yankees are averaging 5.46 runs a game which is even better then they are at home. This ball club is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to offense.
New York Mets: Legit Contenders
Taijuan Walker simply does not lose as the starting pitcher for the Mets. He’s 7-2 this season including 2-0 at home.
In his 16 starts this season, he has a 2.55 earned run average and a walks and hits per inning pitched of 1.091. At home, he is unstoppable without a single loss and a phenomenal 1.50 ERA. His WHIP at home is also just as impressive at 0.972.
Offensively, the Mets are averaging 4.66 runs a game this season and pretty much the same at home where they’re averaging 4.72 runs per contest.
This Mets club is an all around complete team and first year general manager Buck Showalter really has them playing some good ball. Now, we’ll just have to see if they can overcome the woes of their history. where they simply fall off a cliff in the second half.
New York Yankees vs. New York Mets Head-to-Head
This is the first time these two teams will meet this season.
Last season, the Yankees lost the only game that Mongomery started against the Mets. In the 2 games Walker started for the Mets against the Yankees, the Mets were 1-1.
The Mets took the season series 4-2 last year against the Yankees.

New York Yankees vs. New York Mets Prediction
Total: Over 8 (-120)
Some sportsbooks even have the total at 8.5 (+100) which is a great value bet and I would jump on that number in a heartbeat. I’d even be comfortable with the total set at 9 if I’m getting +120 or better.
As lights out as Taijen Walker has been for the Mets this season as a starting pitcher, this current Yankees roster has absolutely destroyed him in the past and they’re playing on another level compared to years past.
In 20 all time at bats against Walker, this Yankees lineup has 8 home runs and 18 runs batted in and an on base percentage of .361 which is ridiculous.
Both games Walker pitched against the Yankees last season went over 10 runs, including a 3 home run game in which he got demolished and gave up 5 runs in 6 innings pitched.
Jordan Montgomery in his 1 game against the Mets last season, gave up 5 runs in 3.1 innings pitched.
This Mets roster has 40 all time at bats against Montgomery with 12 hits, 2 home runs and 7 RBI’s and an OBP of .380. Not to mention he has a 13.50 earned run average against the Mets.
It’s also worth noting, in the 6 games these two teams played last season 5 went over and the one that didn’t only went 7 innings and Nestor Cortes was starting for the Yankees.
