DraftKings Taking Over in Oregon

The sports betting industry in the state of Oregon will be changing next week, and most would agree that this will be a change for the better. The DraftKings Sportsbook app will be going live on January 18, and it will officially replace the Scoreboard App that has been available since the industry was launched.

SBTech is the company that operates the Scoreboard app, but the Oregon Lottery was unhappy with the product and service that it was receiving. In August, the Oregon Lottery approved DraftKings as the new operator, but no timetable was set for launch. 

Bettors have been waiting around since August for some sort of update, and one was finally given earlier this week. One of the biggest advantages for the Oregon Lottery is that it will no longer have to deal with third-party service providers as DraftKings has all of that within its company. 

In this announcement, the Oregon Lottery said, “We’re excited about the improved experience for our players – including the ability to make same game parlay bets. DraftKings is a premier provider in the US.”

DraftKings is one of the market leaders in the United States for online sports betting, and it comes with a highly-rated mobile app. Customers will be able to download the app and sign up remotely before placing wagers on the 18th. 

Oregon residents can download the DraftKings mobile app remotely before placing wagers on Jan. 18th.

Even though this launch will come just after the first round of the NFL Playoffs are complete, there will still be plenty of NFL betting opportunities through February. 

 

What Happens to Previous App?

Even though a launch date is set for the DraftKings app, the Scoreboard app will remain a betting option until January 18. That app is eventually going to go away at that point, but it could still remain “open” for months. 

All unsettled bets will still be valid until those are finally settled. Customers will still be able to access the app to check transaction history, and withdrawals can still be made for the next six months. 

With all of the problems that sports bettors had with the app, don’t expect to see too many people upset that this app will eventually be going away for good. 

 

Familiar Territory For DraftKings

This is now the second state in which DraftKings has the exclusive rights to the online sports betting industry. DraftKings is already the only online option in New Hampshire after agreeing to pay a 51 percent tax on all of the online revenue brought in.

Even though DraftKings does not have any competition in that state, it continues to offer its same great service and competitive lines. Customers are flocking to the sportsbook as well, and New Hampshire has been shattering records.

The October sports betting handle in New Hampshire was just over $98 million, and the $100 million mark could be reached during the NFL Playoffs.
