BallyBet Finally Live in New York
The 9th and final online sportsbook is now live in the state of New York as BallyBet has finally launched. This launch has been highly anticipated in the state, but the actual launch of the sportsbook came with very little fanfare.
The New York State Gaming Association actually approved BallyBet, along with the other eight operators, prior to the launch date in January. At that time BallyBet was unwilling to launch as it didn’t want to compete with the other sportsbooks in terms of bonuses and promotions.
BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel all went live on January 8, and BetMGM, PointsBet, Resorts World, and WynnBET launched prior to March 3. By not launching until now, BallyBet has missed out on several of the biggest sporting events of the year.
This is now the sixth state that has a BallyBet Sportsbook and this is a company that is based out of Rhode Island. A launch in Tennessee is also coming from BallyBet, but it’s unclear when that date will come.
Leaders of BallyBet initially announced that it would launch by the end of April, but it just continued to be delayed. Since BallyBet is getting such a late start in New York, it’s hard to seeing this sportsbook being competitive in this market.
One thing that will help BallyBet attract some business in New York is that the two MLB teams are among the best in baseball. Even if this sport isn’t as popular as others, it will draw plenty of action over the next few months.
FanDuel Clearly on Top
The New York State Gaming Commission continues to announce sports betting totals each week, and it paints an accurate picture of how this market is doing. Since January 8, New York has now posted a total sports betting handle of $8.6 billion.
Of the eight online sportsbooks live in the state of New York, FanDuel is clearly leading the way. FanDuel has posted a total sports betting handle of $3.4 billion, and it also has a total revenue of over $280 million.
Caesars got off to a massive start in the state of New York, but it has actually been passed up by DraftKings. DraftKings has posted a total sports betting handle of $2.1 billion and Caesars are in third place with $1.8 billion.
iGaming Coming in the Future
Now that New York has had so much success with online sports betting, it’s only natural for the state to soon explore online casino gambling. Senator Joseph Addabbo was instrumental in getting online sports betting passed, and he is going to push for another iGaming bill.
Even with how successful online sports betting has been in the state, online casino gambling is expected to bring in much more revenue. This has been the case in other states that have both forms of iGaming.
