The Kentucky Wildcats are traveling to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks in what looks to be a very good evening SEC matchup. The Wildcats sit at 3-0 so far on the year while South Carolina is 2-1. Kentucky took out Louisiana-Monroe with ease and then struggled to put away Missouri and Chattanooga at home. South Carolina has wins over Eastern Illinois and East Carolina before they fell in a game against #2 Georgia. Both of these teams have had struggles in putting away their opponents.
South Carolina’s offense is sputtering to start the year and is only mustering 356.3 yards a game. Head coach Frank Beamer senses this and is starting sophomore Luke Doty behind center this weekend. Look for him to create a spark and create a new fold for Kentucky to defend. Their defense has been pretty solid as they have only allowed 289.3 yards per game and just 19 points a game.
Kentucky, on the other hand, has been interesting at quarterback. Will Levis has passed for 800 yards through three games but has also thrown four interceptions through three games. The Wildcats are still moving the ball at a solid pace of 479.7 yards a game and have scored 36 points a game. The defense has been good for Kentucky this year too as they have only allowed 274.7 yards per game.

South Carolina will cover the spread because they are at home and they have played really well at home so far this season. They are not as bad as people might think they are and I think that they are really going to put pressure on Kentucky. South Carolina has the ability to win the game regardless but I think that they keep it close nonetheless.

Even though South Carolina is going to play this game close, I think Kentucky wins outright. It is really tough to win games with a new starting quarterback and I think that South Carolina will prove that this weekend. Kentucky’s defense has been really good against the pass and they will make it hard to let Doty find a rhythm.
