Pennsylvania Sports Betting Numbers Are In

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board recently announced the December sports betting totals for the state, and the numbers were once again extremely strong. The total sports betting handle for the month was $750.4 million, which was only slightly less than the $760.1 million that came in for November.

This figure will still place Pennsylvania as a top-five betting market for the month, and the state saw a growth of over 36 percent from the December 2020 total. Total sports gambling revenue fell as well, all the way down to just $38.0 million after reaching $84.9 million in November.

Football remained the most popular sport to wager on for the month of December, but bettors enjoyed much more success than the previous month. Online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania accounted for nearly 93 percent of all wagers taken for the month.

Online casinos and poker sites had a record-breaking month in December, as the total gross gaming revenue was $127.6 million. Pennsylvania is one of only a handful of states that have all forms of iGaming available to residents.

Huge Year For Pennsylvania Sports Betting

Another strong month of December wrapped up a massive year of sports betting for the state of Pennsylvania. The total sports betting handle for the year was $6.5 billion, which was a sharp increase from the $3.6 billion that came in a year ago.

The massive growth in the total handle in 2021 came as online sportsbooks saw much more betting action as well. The total online sports betting handle was $6.0 billion, and that total was just $3.3 billion in 2020.

The state collected over $122.5 million in tax revenue in 2021, and that was a jump from $68.3 million in 2020. Pennsylvania was able to collect more tax revenue than any other state with legal sports betting in the United States.

Sportsbooks in the state recorded gross revenue of more than $505 million in 2021, and there is an expectation that an even bigger year is on top in 2022.

FanDuel Remains on Top

FanDuel Sportsbook has a partnership with the Valley Forge Casino in Pennsylvania, allowing it to offer online sports betting in the state. FanDuel posted a total online sports betting handle of $246.8 million and had the most total revenue at $13.9 million.

DraftKings has partnered with the Meadows Casino, and it has consistently been in the number two spot in Pennsylvania. The online sports betting handle at DraftKings in December was $204.7 million, and the total revenue was $8.1 million.

The Barstool Sportsbook app continues to struggle in the Pennsylvania market as it saw some numbers decrease in December. The total sports betting handle at that operator was $61.4 million, and the total revenue was just $3.9 million.
