WynnBet and Bally Bet Could Join the Mobile Maryland Sports Betting Market in a Matter of Weeks

The Maryland sports betting market continues to make waves in the industry as the mobile operation is putting the state on a trajectory to reach new heights. Many bookmakers see this as a key opportunity as more look to conduct business in the Old Line State.

More Sportsbooks Qualified to Join the State

On Thursday, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission qualified two more platforms to the already solid list. These two bookmakers include WynnBet and Bally’s Interactive and they will receive mobile licenses.

The two companies will continue on in the process. The two applicants will meet with the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission as the meeting is scheduled on December 14th.

More options available to the public usually bring more betting volume, as a large percentage of the public will look to take advantage of what different sportsbooks offer in their state. GeoComply released the geolocation numbers that were associated with the Old Line State during the opening week of their online market launch.

According to the numbers, 16.5 million sports betting transactions took place, which spanned from November 23rd to the 27th. It had similar numbers to more prominent markets like New Jersey, which had 17.1 million transactions during that span.

A Strong Start For Maryland’s Mobile Market

On Thanksgiving, GeoComply tracked 3.7 million transactions. This is the perfect time for Maryland sports betting due to the schedule. The NFL is the most wagered sport in the nation, and the World Cup started in November instead of its typical summer start.

The day after Thanksgiving was one of the biggest matchups for the United States men’s national team as they took on rival England. In the end, the game ended in a draw. After advancing past the Group Stage, the United States lost to the Netherlands in the Knockout Stage.

Currently, there are seven bookmakers that are operating in the state. These include Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, BetRivers Sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, and PointsBet.

Three other licensed sportsbooks are expected to launch early next year. The other three platforms that will be joining the market are Betfred, BetParx, and Fanatics.

Maryland Sports Betting to Finish the Year On a High Note

The Last week of November will be counted on Maryland’s December, which will be reported in approximately a month. Before the online operation launched, people in Maryland had to go to brick-and-mortar casinos to place wagers throughout the year.

In the two year span, bettors wagered a total of $280 million. Gov. Larry Hogan was a major advocate for bringing sports betting to the state as it would hurt the offshore betting market. The revenue generated from the launch will now to go programs across the state.

The December handle numbers could certainly surpass the numbers that were accumulated in the last two years. December is a great month as NCAAF conference games will certainly bring in a lot of bets.
