INDUSTRY NEWS: BetMGM agrees 1st sports betting/NASCAR team deal with Richard Childress Racing

BetMGM Strikes Deal with Richard Childress Racing

BetMGM and Richard Childress Racing agree on a partnership, including sponsorship for select 2021 Sprint Cup Races and marketing and activation events. This is the first deal of its kind between a major Nascar team and a Sports Betting company. In many sports, teams and gambling companies remain entirely separate, and it is not allowed.

Richard Childress Racing

“BetMGM is at the forefront of the sports betting and online gaming industry, and Richard Childress Racing can certainly relate to their pioneering vision,” said Richard Childress, Chairman, and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. Richard Childress Racing is the first of what I expect to be many different Racing teams and even other sports franchises to begin to work with sports gambling operators.

“This innovative relationship will provide opportunities to collaborate in new and groundbreaking ways.”

Bet MGM is one of the largest legal sportsbooks out there and is not an offshore sportsbook. As the first sports gambling operator to come to such a deal, it should bring a substantial jump in BetMGM’s wagering on Nascar. “Richard Childress Racing is one of the most respected and formidable teams in motorsports,” said Matt Prevost, BetMGM’s Chief Revenue Officer.

“Together, we will develop compelling marketing opportunities and activations that introduce the BetMGM sports betting brand to NASCAR fans worldwide.”

Who Races with Richard Childress Racing?

Two of the notable Richard Childress Racing drivers that will be working with BetMGM this season are No. 3 car Austin Dillon and No. 8 car Tyler Reddick who both drive Chevrolets. In 10 years racing in the Nascar Sprint Cup Series, Austin Dillon has won three races and has finished in the top 10 49 times. These race cars’ sponsorship will be debuted in Daytona Beach, FL, in the Daytona 500 that airs on Valentine’s Day this year, Sunday, Feb. 14.

Bet MGM and Nascar

Now, this might be the first agreement between a sports betting operator and an individual racing team, but Bet MGM broke into Nascar in the middle of last year.

“Partnering with a best-in-class operator like BetMGM positions NASCAR to build on the positive energy and momentum we’re seeing around gaming and, in particular, the live in-race experience,” said Scott Warfield, NASCAR Managing Director, Gaming. Bet MGM became an authorized gaming operator of Nascar in August of 2020, allowing Bet MGM the rights to work with Nascar in different ways to engage racing fans and promote betting on Nascar.

“We’re excited to have such an iconic brand on board to expand our offerings and deepen our engagement with the most passionate fans in sports.”

Just the Beginning

I believe that Bet MGM is the early player in what is going to be a trend in linking sports betting operators and different sports teams and leagues. As other states have seen, the sports betting industry is a huge moneymaker and has been exploding over the past few years. Sports betting is a growing industry, and it was smart for Bet MGM to get in there early.
