Breeders Cup 2022: Race Order, Wagering Menu, Pre-Entries, and Scratches

Things are starting to heat up for the 2022 Breeders Cup as Breeders Cup Limited, the corporation that runs the event, released several news releases regarding the 14 World Championship races that will take place next weekend. The 39th Breeders Cup will be held at Keeneland Race Park (Lexington, KY) on Nov 4 -5.

There will be 22 races at Keeneland over the two days. Ten races, including five Breeders’ Cup races, will be run on what is dubbed “Future Stars Friday,” with the program starting at 11:55 a.m.(ET) with the five undercard races first.

Saturday is when the World Championships really take center stage as nine of the 12 races are Breeders Cup events, with the first post of the day slated for 10:30 am. The Grade I $6 million Longines’ Breeders Cup Classic will be the final World Championship race of the weekend with a 5:40 p.m. post-time though there be one undercard race afterward.

 

Wagering Menu

U.S. horseplayers and handicappers from 32 other countries will be able to place wagers on Breeders Cup races this year. Twenty-six nations, including the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Germany, will offer pari-mutuel, commingled wagering through the Breeders’ Cup Global Pool on the World Championships. Meanwhile, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Hong Kong, India, and Mexico will offer separate pool wagering systems.

All 22 Breeders’ Cup Weekend races will offer the typical win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, superfecta, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, and Daily Double wagers. However, there will be unique wagers for some of the Breeders Cup races.

On Nov. 4, Keeneland will offer a Breeders’ Cup All-Turf $3 Pick 3 wager. The races in this special All-Turf Pick 3 are the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (Race 6), the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (Race 8), and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (Race 10).

Keeneland will offer a Breeders’ Cup All-Turf 50-cent minimum Pick 4 on Saturday. The four races in order are the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, the Breeders’ Cup Mile, and the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

The Breeders Cup will add a third Pick 5 (middle) this year, with an early Pick 5 and a late Pick 5 for Saturday. The early Pick 5 will begin with Race 1, the middle Pick 5 will start at Race 3, and the late Pick 5 with Race 7. Last year’s late Pick 5 on Saturday generated a $4.7 million pool.

Friday’s Pick 6, early and late Pick 5, and Super High 5 may carry over to Saturday. Any Pick 5 carryover on Friday will roll over to the late Pick 5 on Saturday. Saturday’s Ultra Pick 6, Pick 5, and Super High 5 are mandatory payouts.

In addition, the Breeders Cup will offer three special Daily Doubles. The doubles will be the Juvenile Fillies/Distaff, the Juvenile/Classic, and the Juvenile Turf/Turf.

 

Race Order and Pre-entries For Breeders Cup on Friday

  • Grade 1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint 3:00 p.m.

The Breeders Cup, Juvenile Cup Sprint, is a five-and-one-half sprint for 2-years-old on the turf. Twelve horses will race in the event though the program will include six also-eligibles. Blackbeard is a slight favorite in the race, followed by The Platinum Queen and Private Queen.

  • Grade 1 $2 million NetJets Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 3:40 p.m.

The NetJets Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies is a one and one-sixteenth-mile race for 2-year-old fillies. Fourteen horses are slated to run with five also-eligibles. Atomically is the slight favorite here, followed by Chop Chop, Wonder Wheel, Raging Sea, and Chocolate Gelato.

  • Grade 1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf 4:20 p.m.

The Juvenile Fillies Turf is a one-mile race for 2-year-old fillies to be run on the grass. There are expected to be 14 starters and four also eligibles. Blue Rose Cen is the projected early favorite though seven other horses are battling for the No. 2 favorite.

  • Grade 1 $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile 5:00 p.m.

The FanDuel Breeders Cup Juvenile, presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, is a one and one-sixteenth-mile race for 2-year-old geldings and colts. Twelve horses are slated to run in the event. Cave Rock is expected to be the overwhelming favorite, with National Treasure the second choice.

  • Grade 1 $1 million Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf 5:40 p.m.

The Juvenile Turf is a one-mile race for 2-year-old geldings and colts on the grass. Fourteen horses, with four also-eligibles, are slated to run the race. Silver Knott is expected to be a considerable favorite followed by Packs A Wahlop, I’m Very Busy, Major Dude, and The Antarctic.

 

Race Order and Pre-entries For Breeders Cup on Saturday

  • Grade 1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, 11:50 a.m.

The Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint is a seven-furlong race for 3-years olds and up, fillies and mares. Goodnight Olive is projected as a slight favorite over Echo Zula and Letruska, followed by the rest of the 14-horse field.

  • Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint 12:29 p.m.

The Breeders Cup Turf Sprint is a five-and-one half furlong race for 3-year-olds and up to be run on the turf. Golden Pal and Highfield Princess are the prohibitive favorites in the 14-horse field.

  • Grade 1 $1 million Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile 1:10 p.m.

The Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile will have 12 3-years-old and up runners. Cyberknife and Jack Christopher are the top two horses in the field.

  • Grade 1 $2 million Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf 1:50 p.m.

Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf is a one and three-sixteenth-mile race on the turf. Irish-bred Saffron Beach has bowed out of the event, meaning that Great Britain-horse Mise En Scene will move into the event.

  • Grade 1 $2 million Qatar Racing Breeders’ Cup Sprint 2:30 p.m.

The Qatar Racing Breeders’ Cup Sprint is a six-furlong for 3-years-old and up. Several pre-entered horses like Jack Christopher, Kimari, and Jackie’s Warriors could enter different events.

  • Grade 1 $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile 3:10 p.m.

The FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile is a one-mile race for 3-years-old and up on the turf. Irish horses Bayside Boy and Saffron Beach’s withdrawal will allow Shirl’s Speight and King Cause to be included in the field of 14. Kinross and Modern Games are expected to be major factors.

  • Grade 1 $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff 3:55 p.m.

The Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff is a one-and-one-eighth-mile race for fillies and mares who are 3-years-old and up. Nest, Malathaat, and Clairiere are the favorites in a field of eight.

  • Grade 1 $4 million Breeders’ Cup Turf 4:40 p.m.

The Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf is a one-and-one-half mile race for 3-year-olds and up on the grass. This is expected to be a wide-open race, with Mishriff and National’s Pride expected to be the favorites in a field of 14.

  • Grade 1 $ 6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic 5:20 p.m.

The Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic is a one-and-a-half-mile race for 3-year-olds. Flightline is the favorite here, but Cyberknife, Epicenter, Life Is Good, and Olympiad are top contenders.
