Vancouver vs Austin Prediction & Soccer Odds for 9/4/21
- Ride the offensive firepower of both of these teams with the over 3.5 goal total
- Vancouver’s moneyline at +106 looks great after their manager’s sacking
The Vancouver Whitecaps will host Austin FC in BC Place on Saturday, September 4 at 7:00 EST. This will be the second matchup of these two teams in just over two weeks as both of them look to salvage the rest of their season and claw themselves out of the bottom half of the Western Conference.
Their earlier matchup on August 18 ended 2-1 in favor of Vancouver despite Austin controlling much of the possession at 62 percent. That possession advantage never converted into much of an attack and the story of Austin FC’s season continued where only two of their ten shots made it on target. Vancouver was much more effective, shooting 19 times and putting eight of them on target.

Vancouver vs Austin Prediction: MoneyLine
It can appear pretty dangerous to make a prediction about a game when the two teams have just faced each other fairly recently. They know what to expect and can make significant tactical adjustments. However, in a matchup of two teams at this caliber and in this form, I’m not sure tactical changes will fix much.
The story of Austin’s season has been their ineffective offense. They seem to have broken out of the scoring drought in their past two games, putting six goals in the back of the net–just over 25% of their season goal total. Once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, and three times is a pattern, so if Austin puts away a few goals against Vancouver, then maybe their offense has clicked. However, until then, I don’t trust them.
Vancouver’s offense and defense are by no means outstanding, but they’re not bad either. They are a truly mediocre team. They’ve just sacked their head coach and assistant coach as well. And, their first result after sacking their head coach was a 4-1 result. If that doesn’t bode well for their future and this matchup then I don’t know what does. Vancouver should be a -100 favorite here, so +100ish is as fair a bet as any.

Vancouver vs Austin Prediction: Total
Over/under total bets can be pretty dangerous with the MLS as well as teams at the bottom of the table. Both of these teams are fairly inconsistent with their scoring and despite being historically weak offenses, have put together pretty high-scoring games.
While one might usually stick with the under total with these two teams, riding their goal-scoring ways might be a slightly risky bet here, but one that can pay out big. The over with 2.5 goals is -130 and the over with 3.5 goals is +195 which makes for a prime payout if both of these teams continue to fire offensively.
