Who Should You Bet on for NBA Finals MVP?

After an incredible game one of the 2021 NBA Finals, the Phoenix Suns are leading 1-0 over the Milwaukee Bucks. As we head into game two tomorrow night at 9 p.m. EST, let’s take a look at who will be the MVP for the series.

NBA Finals MVP | Put Your Money on Chris Paul

It is looking like this is the Sun’s year to shine. In game one, finals virgin Chris Paul led the team to their first victory in a finals match since 1993. Paul’s energy on the court Tuesday was unmatched and he helped to energize his fellow teammates.

Paul put up 32 points, the most of anyone on the court, in game one and delivered nine assists for the Sun’s ultimate 118-105 victory. Paul was no match for the Bucks defense; he was almost unstoppable.

When asked after the game his thoughts on Paul, Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer talked about Paul’s performance post-game.

“So, yeah, he’s a good player,”

Budenholzer said.

“We have to . . . see how we can maybe take away some of the rhythm or make it where he’s not getting into his spots as easily.”

Calling Paul a “good player” is an understatement. Paul was the backbone of the Suns offense in game one and will be instrumental in the Suns finals run. He was a spark for the team throughout the entire game, but truly came to life towards the end of the third. Paul led his team into the fourth quarter leading over the Bucks by 16 points.

Paul’s coach Monty Williams talked about how the team reacted to his performance.

“He was making shots, and when he’s in that mode, we just feed off of that,”

Williams said.

Paul seems to be in “that mode” frequently and he has finally been able to show his skills on basketball’s biggest stage in the NBA Finals. Fans should only expect more of this type of performance from the Sun’s incredible, multi-talented point guard.

Other Contenders?

Of course, CP3 is not the only big shooter for the Suns. Devin Booker could be in the conversation for finals MVP as well. Booker added 22 points for his team in game one and tacked on 8 assists. Booker and Paul are the current power players for their team and although both are incredibly talented athletes, Paul has proven he is a leader in clutch times. If Paul continues churning out elite performances throughout the rest of the NBA Finals the Suns will undoubtedly be NBA Champions and Paul will be the MVP.

With Giannis Antetokounmpo recovering from an injury, one he thought he would be unable to play because of over a year initially, I do not see him as a competitor for this honor. However, he did prove in game one that he was ready to take on action, putting up 20 points for the Bucks.

It just seems to be Chris Paul’s year. He is showing that he was deserving of competing in these finals after waiting

Just How Good is Chris Paul?

To put Paul’s stellar game one show out into perspective, he is the first player since Michael Jordan to have 30 points and 8 assists in his final debut. His talented teammate Booker noted how he thinks Paul stacks up against others in the league after game one.

“He’s the greatest leader to play the game,”

Booker said.

Paul is easily in the top five list of best point guards, but he is without the elusive title of NBA champion. The 11x All Star has his first shot at the Larry O’Brien Trophy in his 16 seasons in the league and he is going to give it his all to ensure he and the Suns don’t let this opportunity slip through their fingers. As a result of his determination and leadership, Paul will likely be named the 2021 NBA Finals MVP.
