West Coast NBA Powerhouses Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns Face-Off
This Los Angeles Lakers vs the Phoenix Suns game is the battle of two hopeful playoff contenders that are looking to get into postseason form. Phoenix has been hot as they have won 7 of the last 10, while Los Angeles has lost 8 of the last 10.
The game will be played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Lakers are 18-15 at home and 19-15 on the road, so it won’t make too much of a difference for them. The Suns are 22-10 on the road, so this shouldn’t affect them much either.
The Suns are battling for the #1 seed in Western Conference. They sit in second place with a record of 48-19. The Jazz are just 1.5 games ahead. The Lakers continue to fight for the 6 seed and now sit 1.5 games back from Portland after the loss on Friday night.
The Suns should be able to keep the Lakers in check tonight, as long as Anthony Davis stays quiet. Chris Paul and Devin Booker will lead the way for the Suns in hopes of securing their 8th win in 9 games.
Will the Phoenix Suns Continue to Shine Bright?
The Phoenix Suns come into tonight with a huge win over the very well-rounded Knicks. The Sun’s third star, DeAndre Ayton, was able to lead the way with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Chris Paul had 17 points and 11 assists. Devin Booker added in 16 on a below-average outing.
Jae Crowder did what he does best and sank 6 threes for 18 points. They were struggling against the Knicks in the first half but dropped 72 points in the second half to eventually win by a whopping 23.
Look for the Suns to run the offense through Devin Booker tonight to get him going early on. He has played phenomenally all year, averaging 25.6 points per game on 48.6% field goals. Chris Paul will provide the play-making, and DeAndre Ayton can rebound with the best big men in the league.
Phoenix has been the beneficiary of the Chris Paul effect. From being the laughed upon team for about 5 years prior to the NBA bubble last year, they are finally winning games. Now they’re just looking for a deep run in the Playoffs and a win in the NBA Finals.
The Lakers Trying to Find Their Stride
Playing basketball without Lebron James in the NBA is a difficult thing to do. Just ask the Lakers. They have lost 8 of their last 10 and don’t seem to have much going for them. Anthony Davis was able to get back on track Friday night with 36 points and 12 rebounds on 12 of 23 shooting.
The Lakers guards Alex Caruso, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope were able to give the Lakers 35 combined points. Andre Drummond and Kyle Kuzma struggled mightily as each player only recorded 4 points. Montrezl Harrel sat out as a coach’s decision.
To get their groove back and start winning these crucial games, they need to find a rhythm on offense. The Lakers were able to hold the scorching-hot Trail Blazers to just 106 points but only scored 101.
As LeBron James and Dennis Schroder continue to sit out, the Lakers are expected to struggle with play-making. Anthony Davis will have to carry the load tonight on offense as Chris Paul and Devin Booker won’t be slowing down anytime soon on the other side of the court.
Pick and Prediction
The Suns are -7.5 tonight, and they’re going to be coming into tonight on fire from three while playing some of the best basketball all season. The Lakers have arguably been playing their worst basketball of the season but will be fighting hard to turn it around.
I’ll take the Suns -7.5. Devin Booker is going to give us 35 points, and Chris Paul will drop 20 and 12 against this depleted Lakers team.
You can watch this game tonight on NBA TV at 10:00 P.M. Eastern.
