Selecting a Winner of Each MLB Division
With the 2022 Major League Baseball season less than two weeks away, there are great future bets to be made in selecting a division winner. Read to find out each team who will be winning their division’s title in 2022.
Selecting a Winner of Each MLB Division
The new edition of the Major League Baseball season will soon be upon us. The lockout has changed the professional baseball landscape but the divisional format will remain the same.
Here’s the best future picks for each MLB Division winner.
AL East: Toronto Blue Jays
Anyone who follows baseball shouldn’t be too surprised by this. The Jays have used the offseason to establish themselves as front runners for not only American League East champ, but also a leader in World Series odds.
The Blue Jays have the best odds to win the 2022 AL East crown at +185 and are tied for 2nd in best odds to win the World Series at +1000.
Their offense is led by the mighty Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the lineup as a whole is poised to run it back as one of the most dangerous in baseball. The team has also significantly improved the pitching rotation (2021’s main concern) by extending trade deadline pickup Jose Berrios as well as adding Kevin Gausman and Yusei Kikuchi.
The AL East is going to be a juggernaut this season with the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays all vying for the playoffs, but if you’re picking a winner right now; it has to be Toronto.
AL Central: Detroit Tigers
This may be a bold pick but you aren’t gonna make money if you don’t take some chances.
The Detroit Tigers are a sleeper to really surprise the baseball world this season. Their main obstacle in the AL Central will be last year’s winner, the Chicago White Sox. Detroit has used the offseason to bring in a lot of veteran talent such as shortstop Javier Baez and starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez.
The Tigers have the 3rd best odds to win the AL Central crown at +700 behind the White Sox and Minnesota Twins. Detroit is being seriously undervalued as they have a young team with a lot of talent who are going to benefit greatly from the new faces the Tigers have brought in.
If the Tigers can play well against the rest of their division there’s no reason why they can’t compete for the division title in 2022.
AL West: Los Angeles Angels
The dropoff between the Houston Astros and everyone else in the AL West and American League as a whole is stark. Yes, Houston is the reigning AL Champ but they’ve lost Carlos Correa and Zack Greinke while making no significant major league additions.
The Angels on the other hand have added former All-Star Noah Syndergaard to the rotation as well as reliever Aaron Loup who had a career year in 2021.
The Angels have the 2021 AL MVP in dual threat Shohei Ohtani and the best player of this generation in Mike Trout. In addition, they also have incredible talents in Anthony Rendon, David Fletcher and Jared Walsh.
The Angels have the 2nd best odds to win the AL West crown at +380 which is great value for the amount of talent they have on their roster. If this team can stay healthy, there’s no reason why they can’t turn the tide in the AL West and take the division away from Houston’s control.
NL East: New York Mets
The Mets are slight favorites to win the National League East but are tied for the 3rd best odds with the Yankees to win the World Series. The Mets are +140 to take home the NL East crown for the first time since 2015.
The Mets have a very talented team to begin with with guys like Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor and the best pitcher in baseball, Jacob deGrom. They’ve only gotten better since a disappointing finish last season.
The offseason has treated Mets fans very kindly as they’ve acquired Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha, Starling Marte and most notably, All-Star and perennial Cy Young candidate, Max Scherzer.
This season the Mets have their eyes on the Fall Classic and that starts with establishing their dominance over the NL East. This team’s only competition for division title will be the reigning World Series champion Atlanta Braves.
If the Mets can consistently win the games they’re supposed to and beat down on the rest of the east, the division will belong to them.
NL Central: St. Louis Cardinals
After acquiring Nolan Arenado during the 2021 offseason, the Cardinals seemed poised to run away with the NL Central title. It didn’t come to fruition, however, as the Cardinals claimed the Wild Card spot and lost the NL Central to the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cardinals have a very formidable team all-around and this will be the season where it all comes together for the Red Birds. The Cardinals have the 2nd best odds to win the NL Central at +190.
The talent and potential on this team is massive with guys like Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, Adam Wainwright and Jack Flaherty leading the way, and in 2022 it’ll just be a matter of being able to outperform Milwaukee.
NL West: Los Angeles Dodgers
It’s impossible not to take the Dodgers to win the NL West right now. They’ve retained Clayton Kershaw for 2022 and made the biggest position player pickup of the offseason by signing 2020 MVP and 5x All-Star Freddie Freeman to a six year deal.
The Dodgers are heavy favorites to take home the NL West crown at -210 as well as favorites to win the World Series at +500.
The Dodgers probably have the best lineup on paper with guys like Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Justin Turner and now Freeman, leading the way. LA will have some competition in fellow California rivals San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres, however, the Dodgers are far and away the best team in the division at the season’s outset.
You won’t get good value if you bet on the Dodgers to win the NL West in 2022 because they’re such heavy favorites, but a bet on any other team is ill-advised.
