PARX Dirt Mile Stakes Quick Picks

The $200,000 PARX Dirt Mile Stakes is a listed event for 3-year-olds and older and drew eight horses, five of them with graded stakes resumes, and the winner will use this race as a tune-up for the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1).

Billed as race 7 of 13, post time for the PARX Dirt Mile is 2:51 PM ET. The track will be fast.

Let’s take a quick look at the horses most likely to hit the board.

#6 Silver State (8-5)

Silver State had his six-race win streak snapped in the nine-furlong Whitney Stakes (G1) at Saratoga in his last start. Although he was seriously outclassed by division leader Knicks Go and Maxfield, the Steve Asmussen trainee finished third. Previously, Silver State captured the Met Mile (G1), and he must be considered the class of the Dirt Mile field. Win contender.

#3 Mind Control (4-1)

Mind Control is also entering off a loss in a Saratoga Grade 1 race. Making his second start for trainer Todd Pletcher, Mind Control had a four-wide trip in the seven-furlong Forego Stakes (G1), yet finished fourth, 2 3/4 lengths behind the winner, and he lost the photo for third by a nose. Previously, Mind Control hung on to win the seven-furlong John A. Nerud Stakes (G2) by a head after a pacesetting trip. Win contender.

#5 West Will Power (5-1)

West Will Power has finished second in his last two starts, including the 1 1/6 mile Philip H. Iselin Stakes (G3) in his last start. The Kelly Breen trainee has finished out of the money only once in his eight-race career and has hit the board in three of four starts at a mile. West Will Power has won only once this year, but he can be counted on to pick up a check. Exotics.

#1 Dreams Untold (8-1)

A mile race at PARX is right up Dreams Untold’s alley. The local horse has hit the board in seven of nine outings here and has won or placed in three of four starts at a mile. Trainer John Servis gave Dreams Untold a string series of bullet works in preparation for the Dirt Mile, and Frankie Pennington is one of the leading jocks of the PARX meet. Live longshot.

PARX Dirt Mile Stakes Quick Picks

Four of the nine contenders like to set or press the pace, leading to swift fractions. That could set the race up perfectly for Silver State, who has tactical speed and can hang back, waiting for the pacesetters to tire. As the only Grade 1 winner in the field, Silver State towers over this bunch.
