Early Kentucky Derby Odds & Predictions

The road to the Kentucky Derby is already underway, even though this horse race is not going to be taking place until May. Trainers and jockeys are entering their top horses into smaller events in an effort to rack up enough points to qualify. 

The full field for the Kentucky Derby is not going to be announced until a later date, but the betting odds have already been posted. Now is actually a great time to make predictions on the Kentucky Derby as this is when you can get a ton of betting value. 

Some horses have already separated from the pack, and those trainers will now be pushing them harder than ever. 

Two Top Choices at Kentucky Derby

It’s very rare to see just one horse become a big Kentucky Derby favorite, and that is the case right now as well. There are actually two horses that have separated from the rest of the pack, and they will be looking to stay that way for the rest of the year.

Sierra Leone is the current betting favorite to win the Kentucky Derby at +700, and now is the time to jump on those odds. If Sierra Leone continues to come up with some big performances then those odds are going to be shrinking ahead of this event. 

Chad Brown is the trainer of Sierra Leone and he has done a great job getting this horse ready to compete on the biggest stage. Dornoch is a horse that looks like it is ready to run well at Churchill Downs as he has +800, according to the offers.bet promos. 

Dornoch is going to be coming into this event with a ton of momentum as this horse just took first place in the Fountain of Youth G2. There are going to be plenty of other opportunities for both of these horses to get some much needed preparation, but they will both be on the track a ton as well. 

2024 Kentucky Derby Contenders Are Emerging

The betting odds to win the Kentucky Derby will be shifting a ton over the next few months as horses will be dropping in and out of the rankings. There are currently over 30 horses with Kentucky Derby odds listed, and that number is going to shrink at time moves along. 

The odds do start to fall off a bit after the top two horses, but that is where things start to tighten up as well. There are currently three horses with the same odds set at +1200, and those three horses are going to be some top contenders.

• Track Phantom

Locked has been a horse that is climbing up the rankings of late, and that means that it could be on a path to having a ton of momentum. Fierceness and Track Phantom both entered the year on the watch list to win the Kentucky Derby, and nothing has changed since that time. 

It is very rare to see the five early betting favorites for the Kentucky Derby and not have mentioned a horse that is trained by Brad Cox, but that is the case when checking out the early lines. 

Other Horses Can Climb

Now might be the perfect time to get some valuable odds on many of the horses listed, but you could also run the risk of making a bet on a horse that won’t even qualify for the big race. With over 30 horses listed with odds, there is just no way that all of those horses are even going to have a shot to pick up a win. 

Timberlake is the next horse to check out when focusing on the Kentucky Derby odds as the odds for that horse are set at +1600. It’s going to take some work for Timberlake in order to even get in a position to compete at Churchill Downs, but it is a horse that is talented enough to win any race. 

Mystik Dan is another horse that is one to keep an eye on when betting on the Kentucky Derby and the odds for that horse are set at +1800. It’s starting to look as if Mystik Dan will qualify to at least run in this big event, but that is when the work will really begin. 

There is going to be so much movement when it comes to the Kentucky Derby odds over the next few weeks, and some of the betting favorites could even fall off at some point as well. Last year was a bad year in terms of injuries for horses, and that clouded the overall results.
