Tiger Woods Will Never Win Another Major Championship
For years Tiger Woods has been the face of the PGA Tour and golf, whether he was playing or not. Between a limited schedule, the progression of other players on tour, Woods’ injury history, and his increasing age are the reasons why Woods won’t be able to rejoin the coveted winners circle he so desperately wants to return to.
Limited Schedule
Woods says he wants to play a limited tournament schedule, which would mean he would only be competing in the most competitive fields and toughest courses that the PGA Tour has to offer. Playing such a limited schedule drastically reduces Woods’ chances of ever getting into good enough form to make a run at a major championship.
Modernization Of the Game
Another reason Woods will never win another major championship is that he no longer has the advantages he used to have over other players on the field. Players have gotten better, and fitness has taken a step forward for the game as well, creating a need for players to gain distance and swing speed. When Tiger was on his dominant runs, he would truly be the only player that was physically able to hit the ball as high, far, and accurately as he could.
Injury History
It would also be foolish to not include Tiger Woods’s extensive injury history as a reason why he will never raise another trophy. Perhaps the most notable of all Tiger Woods’ injuries was his most recent, which happened in February 2021, when Tiger was caught in a car crash in Southern California.
After the crash, many speculated that we may never see Woods play golf again, but he has proven that theory wrong. Woods’ true capacity on the tour at this point is to focus on making cuts and, less so, winning tournaments.
Age
Tiger Woods is 47 years old. The oldest major championship winner in the PGA was Phil Mickelson, who won the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island at the age of 50 years old. The performance was nothing short of a fairytale. Mickelson, at the time, was also a player that had been knocking on the door of his next major championship for the past few years prior to winning at Kiawah.
The statistical chance of Tiger Woods (age 47) winning a major championship within the next three years, after all he’s been through, seems like a task that is just too big for even the greatest golfer of all time.
