Three Longshots Who Can Win The British Open

Robert Macintyre (+8000)

Robert Macintyre lives for links golf. He is one of the younger players on tour at just 24 years of age. Macintyre has no PGA victories, but has won 2 international events.

Macintyre has not stood out on tour this season, only partaking in 9 events. He finished in a tie for 12th at the Masters. However, Macintyre has been playing in tournaments in Europe and has found success in those events. He recently finished in a tie for 18th at the Scottish Open.

In 2019 Robert finished in a tie for 6th at The Open, just another example of his stellar play in European events.

Rickie Fowler (+8000)

Rickie Fowler is starting to round his game back into form after huge struggles to begin the year. This is an event that Rickie has succeeded in throughout his career with 4 top 20 finishes and a runner up in 2014.

Fowler’s strokes gained stats are awful on the season, but he has made dramatic jumps in his last 4 events. He finished in a tie for 8th at the PGA Championship, then followed that up with a tie for 11th at The Memorial.

After watching Fowler hit a few amazing iron shots and consistent drives all week in Detroit I think 80 to 1 is great value for Fowler.

One stat that sticks out for Rickie is his strokes gained around the green. He ranks 11th on tour in that category. For The Open ball striking is at a premium, but with the wind and difficult conditions players are going to miss the green. Rickie is one of the best scramblers in the world and this will provide a huge advantage for him.

One more thing to look out for with Rickie is his recent struggles with the putter. Rickie has one of the smoothest strokes on tour, but has faced struggles with the flat stick. If he can get the putter on track and roll in some birdie putts Rickie has a shot this week.

Adam Scott (+10000)

Adam Scott’s game has been all out of sorts this season. He has just 1 top 10 finish in 15 events. Scott has finished outside of the top 30 in every major so far this year.

However, I have confidence in Scott who is one of the best ball strikers of all time on tour to turn it around this week. Scott ranks 144th on tour in strokes gained off the tee. He has been making limited appearances in events which I am sure is due to him working to get his game back together.

I think with a few weeks off Scott will be ready to roll and if he can get off the tee he will have a week at Royal St. George’s.
