The Miami Dolphins Are Super Bowl Contenders after Tuesday’s Trade Deadline

Just two weeks ago, the Miami Dolphins were 3-3 after third-year quarterback Tua Tagovaiola missed a pair of games due to a concussion. Teddy Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson weren’t able to maintain the team’s momentum with disappointing losses to the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings.

Miami had actually started the season 3-0 and looked like a dominant offensive team with Tagovaiola and wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Let’s not forget they beat the Buffalo Bills at home on September 25 to improve to 3-0.

With Tagovailoa back, the team won back-to-back games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions and now, with All-Pro linebacker Bradley Chubb in the fold, seem poised for a Super Bowl run.

Chubb Immediately Improves the Dolphins Pass Rush

Despite its impressive play as of late, the Dolphins defense, particularly its pass defense, has been among the worst in the league this season. The Dolphins have allowed 261.1 passing yards per game, which is fewer than only six teams.

The Denver Broncos, which featured Chubb as a dominant pass rusher, surprisingly led the NFL with the fewest passing yards per game at 165.8. Denver allowed just 133 passing yards to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and averaged only 147.7 per game over the last three games.

During Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, the Dolphins acquired Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Broncos in exchange for running back Chase Edmonds, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 fourth-round pick.

While the addition of Chubb alone shouldn’t make the Dolphins immediate Super Bowl favorites, it definitely improves the team and should give them momentum as they navigate the last half of the season.

Miami is now a +3000 favorite to win the Super Bowl, but still has longer odds than the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, and Minnesota Vikings. Miami is better than each of those teams.

Offense Should Keep Rolling

Miami ranks 16th in the league in points per game this season at 22.3, but just by watching the Dolphins offense, particularly with Tagovaiola under center, you can tell they’re one of the most dynamic teams in the league. In the five full games that Tagovaiola has played, Miami has scored 20, 42, 21, 16, and 31 points. The 16 points scored was in Tagovaiola’s first game back from concussion, while the 21 points were in the Dolphins’ 21-19 victory over the Bills.

With weapons like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Miami should continue to put up plenty of points on offense. At the very least, Tagovaiola will have no trouble moving the ball down the field. Miami is third in passing yards per game (292.5) behind only the Kansas City Chiefs and Bills.

The Dolphins also added Jeff Wilson Jr. from the San Francisco 49ers to backup and complement running back Raheem Mostert.

This is the most complete Dolphins team in years. Get in at +3000 before the odds continue to get shorter as the weeks progress.
