Zach Wilson Injury Status Changes Ravens vs. Jets Betting Odds
The Baltimore Ravens versus New York Jets matchup on Sunday has had quite a big movement since betting odds opened. The Jets went from a +4.5 Underdog to a + 7 spread due to quarterback Zach Wilson being out for this game. Quarterback Joe Flacco will start in place of Wilson, as Zach Wilson will be out for at least three weeks at the beginning of the NFL season.
Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets Betting Odds
The spread for the Ravens vs. Jets game is -7 for the Baltimore Ravens and +7 for the New York Jets. The total points are set at 44.5, while the Ravens’ money line is -330 and the Jets’ is +270. Right now 89% of the money is on the Baltimore Ravens as many fans seem confident that Baltimore will walk away with more than a touchdown victory over New York.
The Ravens come into this matchup with a record of 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 matchups while the Jets are 2-8 in the same timeframe.
Zach Wilson’s Injury
Zach Wilson is out due to a knee injury that he suffered in the first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on August 12th. Zach Wilson tore his meniscus and suffered a bone bruise on his knee in the game on a noncontact play and received arthroscopic knee surgery four days later. The surgery was said to be minor, and there was hope this week that Wilson could play in game 1, but Jets head coach Robert Saleh has stated that Zach Wilson’s return will be in week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at the earliest.
Why The Ravens Are Favorites
The Baltimore Ravens were already a favorite in this game, as they were a -4.5 favorite for betting odds, but facing Joe Flacco instead of Zach Wilson gives the Ravens’ defense even more comfortability.
The Ravens had one of the best drafts in the offseason and added Justin Houston as an edge rusher. Baltimore had to deal with a ton of injuries last season, and as a result, missed the playoffs. However, the Ravens are now healthier and are the 11th highest betting odds to win the Super Bowl this season at +2000.
Flacco Returns Home
Joe Flacco will return to his former team the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Flacco was the Ravens’ quarterback from the 2008 to 2018 seasons. Flacco led the Baltimore Ravens to the Super Bowl in 2012, defeating the San Francisco 49ers and winning the Super Bowl MVP. Flacco’s Ravens career ended in a somber way as a hip injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 9 forced him to be replaced by Lamar Jackson, who quickly impressed and never relinquished the starting job.
Flacco was then traded to the Denver Broncos where he played eight games before signing with the New York Jets the next season. Flacco has remained a New York Jet since but has only played seven games in two seasons.
