The Transfer Market Will Significantly Impact the Competition to Win the Bundesliga
The Bundesliga has seen significant transfers take place over the last few months. Erling Haaland has departed Borussia Dortmund and Robert Lewandowski has departed Bayern Munich so far during the transfer window.
As a result, the league could be significantly affected next season. Bayern Munich, who has won the last 10 titles in a row, will need to reorganize their attack after the departure of Lewandowski, while Dortmund will have major changes to their squad ahead of next season.
Top Teams in the Bundesliga Make Significant Transfers
Possibly the most significant transfer of the entire summer so far was Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City. The 22-year-old forward has developed into one of the best players in Europe at a young age, and will be extremely difficult for Borussia Dortmund to replace.
The team has made several signings this summer at multiple positions, including Sebastian Haller, Karim Adeyemi, and Nico Schlotterbeck. Unfortunately, during Haller’s medical examinations, a testicular tumor was found, and he will take time to undergo treatment and recover.
Adeyemi joins the team from Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored 27 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga during four years and 68 games. He could be an important player for the future of Dortmund at the forward positions.
Schlotterbeck joins Dortmund from SC Freiburg, where he established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world. He regularly plays at the international level, and he still has the opportunity to continue to develop.
He will join Niklas Sule in the Dortmund starting lineup after Sule departed Bayern Munich for the team earlier this summer. The two players should immediately improve Dortmund’s defense and help them compete for the Bundesliga title.
However, Dortmund has not been the only team in Germany that has made significant transfer signings. Bayern Munich has welcomed Matthijs de Ligt, Sadio Mane, and Ryan Gravenberch, along with several other players, to their squad this summer.
De Ligt was a member of the Ajax team that made the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 before he left Ajax for Juventus in the summer of 2019. De Ligt is just 22, but has multiple years of Champions League experience and will be an excellent player for Bayern Munich for years to come.
Mane will help the team replace Lewandowski. The 30-year-old forward is one of the main reasons Liverpool has had so much success over the last several years, and he scored 90 goals in the Premier League during his time with the club. Gravenberch joins the team from Ajax, where he became one of the best young midfielders in Europe.
Overall, Bayern Munich has greatly improved their chances of winning the Bundesliga yet again, while also making themselves one of the favorites in the Champions League.
RB Leipzig has seen 14 players, including Tyler Adams, depart the team this summer, but Xaver Schlager will improve the team after they finished fourth last season. Third-place finishers Bayer Leverkusen have only made one signing this summer, Adam Hlozek, but could potentially complete a few signings before the end of the transfer window.
What this Means for Next Season’s Bundesliga Odds
Bayern Munich will likely be the favorites in the Bundesliga yet again, and for good reason. Lewandowski will be a difficult player to replace, but Mane will help the team continue to be one of the best goal-scoring teams in the world. De Ligt and Gravenberch will also further help the team compete for the Bundesliga title and to win the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund will also enter next season with a chance to win the title. Haaland’s departure will cause changes within the team, but the signings they have made so far this summer will help the team improve.
Leipzig will hope that they can take a step forward next season after unexpectedly finishing fourth. Leverkusen has only completed one transfer, but they had an excellent season last year and should be well positioned to again finish within the top four.
There have been several changes in the Bundesliga this summer, and next season’s competition to win the league title should be fascinating. Bayern Munich will enter the season as the favorites, and one of the contenders to win the Champions League, but it will be difficult for the team to win its 11th straight Bundesliga title.
