Battle of Malta Heads Towards Climax This Weekend

Over the next few days, the year’s largest online poker event will head towards its climactic main event.

With almost three weeks of play complete, the online series has featured 13 events so far, as well as a range of side events as well. Over €25 million of guaranteed prize money has been up for grabs, with some buy ins as low as €50.

Five events remain, the largest of which is the main event, where the final table is scheduled to take play on 31 July, with participants competing for a €2,500,000 prize pool

Here’s a look at who is in the box seat heading into the main event, and how the series has unfolded so far.

Event #11 at Battle of Malta Pays Out Largest Prize To Date

Ahead of the main event this weekend, online player ‘Runnersx2’ will be feeling happy about their play so far.

This week, Event #11: €550 Grand Harbour Superstack paid out €105,113 to Runnersx2, who was the winner at the nine person final table. This particular event had a total prize pool of €746,130, made up of 1,428 players, and shared between the top 206 finishers.

The lowest cash from this €550 Grand Harbour Superstack was €952, while all of the final table members received a minimum of five figures, ranging from €10,566 for ‘Mooshtako’ through to the top prize of €105,113 for Runnersx2, who beat ‘HotBoy19’ and ‘Mr_3rdBullet’ for the win.

Runnersx2 now receives automatic entry and accommodation for the in-person main event, which gets under way this weekend.

Busy Weekend of Play to Close Out Tournament

With just three days’ play remaining, the upcoming weekend will be full of poker.

Events #15, #16 and #17 all remain to be played, as well as the main event, #18 €555 Battle of Malta Online Main Event. The Main Event is already underway, with play whittling down from a field of over 1000, down to a final table that will play out on the 31 of July, competing for a prize of €2,500,000.

The main event is not the only seven figure prize on offer this weekend, as Even #16 GGMasters Royal Championship has a €1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, with a €1,050 buy-in for punters.

With all winners of any of the 17 events leading up to the €555 Battle of Malta Online Main Event scoring free entry to the tournament, expect competition to be hot as the day’s play progresses. Runnersx2 is sitting in a good position for a deep run given his hot form in the €550 Grand Harbour Superstack event, however, other players such as ‘zemachess’, ‘trapmore’ and ‘haha417’ are also playing strongly so far.

With prize pools and participation numbers at an all-time high courtesy of Covid-19, this is the golden age of online poker, and we can look forward to a weekend of poker to remember.
