PointsBet Now Live in New York
The PointsBet Sportsbook NY app is now live, becoming the sixth online sports betting option in the state. PointsBet officially launched on Monday night at 10 pm, and there was a long list of customers waiting to sign up.
There were four online sportsbook apps ready to go on opening day, and those included: BetRivers, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, and FanDuel Sportsbook. BetMGM as the fifth online sports betting option, launching precisely one week before PointsBet could flip the switch.
Adding PointsBet to the mix now gives New York six of the top online sports betting options in the entire industry. This will create plenty of competition in the state, which is always a benefit to sports bettors.
The first sports betting report has already been announced from the New York State Gaming Commission, and this state should be the biggest market in the U.S. soon. The total sports betting handle was more than $600 million from January 8 through January 16.
Retail sports betting has been live in New York since 2019, but those in-person sportsbooks were not attracting much action. The growth of sports betting in New York will also significantly impact what takes place in New Jersey.

PointsBet has entered New York with a massive welcome offer that is essentially worth up to $2,000 in risk-free bets. With this welcome offer, PointsBet is also trying to entice bettors to try out points betting, which is a unique feature of the site.
PointsBet is offering its new users in New York massive welcome bonuses.The welcome offer comes in the form of two different free bets, one for a fixed-odds wager and the other for a points betting wager. There is a $500 risk-free bet for fixed-odds betting and a $1,500 risk-free bet for the first points betting wager placed at the site.
This is now the 9th state in which PointsBet is operational, and it has emerged as a popular sports betting option. PointsBet has a long list of daily and weekly promotions as well as the terrific welcome offer.
More Operators Coming
The New York State Gaming Commission made it clear that online sportsbooks would be launching on a rolling basis after the first four sites went live. The potential sportsbooks have one specific target date in mind, and that goal is to be live by the Super Bowl in 2022.
The three online sportsbooks that will be next to launch in New York include:
- Bally Bet
- Resorts World
- WynnBET
The first two online sportsbooks on that list should be coming within the next month, but WynnBET might not ever launch in the state.
That company is looking to sell its sports betting arm, and another company will be able to purchase that license and gain entry into a massive sports betting market.
