Golf’s “Biggest Party” Hitches to the Gambling Craze

The partners will aim to create a “one-of-a-kind” sports betting and dining experience. The sportsbook will be equipped with 390 seats throughout its interior and exterior spaces, 40 sports betting kiosks, and seven ticket windows.

More than 3,400 square feet of video walls and screens will be featured across the space, along with cabanas, VIP areas, and fire pits.

For dining options, the sportsbook will include a high-end restaurant serving domestic fare, 12 beers on tap, and mixed drinks.

“When DraftKings became the first Official Betting Operator of the PGA Tour, a number of possibilities opened up to innovate together,” said Ezra Kucharz, chief business officer at DraftKings. “This momentous effort to pursue a first-of-its-kind sportsbook with the PGA Tour is a testament to the vision of both organizations that we believe will ultimately benefit Arizona sports fans who want to legally bet on sports.”

Gambling Is Booming in Arizona

Since its inception in September 2021, sports betting numbers in Ariz. have skyrocketed. According to the Arizona Department of Gaming, sportsbooks in The Grand Canyon State took in a record $691 million in March 2022.

Mobile players wagered more than $685 million during March. DraftKings was the most popular operator, with $230 million in bets.

As part of the expanded partnership in Ariz., DraftKings became an exclusive sports betting partner of the WM Phoenix Open.

The PGA Tour and the Boston-based betting giant will work together on facilitating marketing initiatives and creating hospitality experiences to make TPC Scottsdale a world-renowned destination for golf fans and tourists alike.

“We are thrilled to work with DraftKings – along with the City of Scottsdale and the Thunderbirds – to explore a one-of-a-kind sportsbook experience at TPC Scottsdale and the world-class Waste Management Phoenix Open,” said Norb Gambuzza, senior vice president of media and gaming at the PGA Tour. “‘The People’s Open’ is one of the most attended events in golf and with this announcement we look forward to taking the fan experience to another level.”

The PGA Tour expects the sportsbook to open in Fall 2023, just in time for the 2023 Super Bowl, which will take place in Glendale at State Farm Stadium. Although the sportsbook will be used as a hospitality venue during the WM Phoenix Open, it will be open to the public year-round.

The WM Phoenix Open is the most attended golf tournament in the world. “The Greatest Show on Grass” has seen more than 700,000 fans. It is best known for the raucous, party-like atmosphere on the famed 16th hole.

Renderings for the sportsbook were released by the PGA Tour in April. It will be located right next to the 18th hole on the Stadium Course.
