DraftKings Becomes Official DFS Partner of the Red Sox
DraftKings and the Red Sox have entered into a deal where the operator will become the exclusive DFS betting partner for the team.
DraftKings and the Red Sox make the perfect partnership because of the elite status of both organizations. DraftKings is amongst the top sports betting and DFS operators in the United States, and Boston is a team defined by championships.
Additionally, DraftKings is based out of the city, so the two groups have worked closely in the past.
Details of the Partnership
Boston will promote the operator as its official DFS provider through emails and social media outside the stadium. However, the real bulk of the partnership will occur inside the hallowed grounds of Fenway Park.
DraftKings will be the presenting sponsor for the 50/50 raffle at all Red Sox home games. This should generate more interest in a raffle that’s anticipated at every home contest.
Ezra Kucharz, the Chief Business Officer of DraftKings, spoke about the significance of the partnership following the announcement.
“We are thrilled to team up with a historic franchise like the Red Sox and bring DraftKings closer to this passionate fanbase, which is even more special given our hometown Boston roots. As a Boston-born company, we are well-acquainted with the devotion of Boston sports fans, and we believe the engagement possibilities of this integration are only just beginning.”
If Red Sox fans do not know about DraftKings, they will in the coming years. The DraftKings logo will be implemented into NESN broadcasts of the games. It will also be displayed on the video board and behind home plate.
DraftKings already has a deal with the franchise for advertising space on the Green Monster.
Great Time for DraftKings and the Red Sox
The Red Sox are having a tremendous season, but this partnership sets them up nicely for when sports betting is legalized in Massachusetts. Last week, the House passed a betting bill that’s moving to the Committee on Senate Means and Ways.
This DFS partnership will likely expand to sports betting in the next year. Troup Parkinson, Red Sox EVP of Partnerships, was quoted after the franchise partnered with the operator.
“Since 2015, we have worked closely with DraftKings and are pleased to now have this Boston-based company on board as our official daily fantasy sports partner. With millions participating in the world of fantasy sports, this partnership positions us well to grow our game and engage with our fans on a trusted platform. We look forward to deepening our partnership in the years ahead.”
This DFS partnership for DraftKings follows the operator receiving a DFS license in LA. DFS is not as large of a market as sports betting. Nevertheless, it’s vast in Massachusetts where sports betting is still pending approval from the Senate.
The MA legislature has been attempting to pass sports betting for an extensive period. Yet, nothing has come to fruition, but this will change during the 2021 legislative session.
The Red Sox are currently 63-40 and 2.5 games up on the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the American League East. This team is a contender in the postseason, so DraftKings could not have partnered with a better club.
