Dallas (9-10) has won three of their last five games, but they enter this contest on the heels of a tough road loss to New York Liberty. A big game from Isabelle Harrison wasn’t enough, as star guard Arike Ogunbowale struggled and finished 4/12 from the field.
Ogunbowale and Mabrey have been a solid duo since their days at Notre Dame. Mabrey posted a solid line of 15/7/5 in the loss to the Liberty, and she scored 28 points in the win over Chicago. She’s averaging 14.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, and 3.1 apg on the season. Ogunbowale is the reigning WNBA scoring champion, and she leads the Wings with 19.1 ppg and 3.4 apg.
Satou Sabally’s return the lineup gave the Wings a boost last month. The former Oregon Duck is scoring 13.1 ppg, and she leads the team in rebounding (6.2). Her ability to protect the rim and stretch the floor has carved out more minutes Isabelle Harrison.
The fifth-year center scored a career-high 23 points for the second time in a week. This pairing has led to Dallas ranking second in the league in rebounding. Kayla Thornton is averaging a 8.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg, while Allisha Gray is fourth on the team in scoring at 11.3 ppg.
Lynx Have Caught Fire
After starting the season out with four straight losses, Minnesota (9-7) has responded by winning nine of their past twelve contests, and they enter this one riding a four-game winning streak. The Lynx are coming off of a decisive 99-68 victory over a healthy Phoenix Mercury team, and they look like they are about to crash the party atop of the Western Conference.
The Lynx have been powered by the trio of Napheesa Collier, Kayla McBride and Sylvia Fowles. Collier scored 19 points in both wins over Phoenix, and she leads the team in scoring with 17.8 ppg, while grabbing 6.8 rpg.
Fowles remains a steady interior presence even in year 13. The 6’6 center had a monster 30-point, 14-rebound game in the win over Liz Cambage and the Las Vegas Aces. She’s averaging a double-double for the seventh time in her career with 16.5 ppg and 10.2 rpg.
Kayla McBride has come over in her first season from Las Vegas and been a tremendous fit for the Lynx. She’s third on the team in scoring with 13.9 ppg, and she scored 24 and 26 points in the wins over Phoenix.
Layshia Clarendon signed with Minnesota right after the opener and has become the team’s starting point guard. She averages 9.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, a team-leading 4.8 apg, and has been stout defensively. Crystal Dangerfield is fifth on the team in scoring (9.4), while Damaris Dantas gives the Lynx another physical presence to complement Fowles.
Players to Watch
Kayla McBride
The newly-acquired guard is coming off of her two best performances of the season. Look for her to keep things rolling against a Dallas team that struggles to defend on the road.
Satou Sabally
With Sylvia Fowles still playing at such a high level inside, for Dallas to have a chance, Sabally must play big on both sides of the floor. She’ll have her hands full with Napheesa Collier, but if she can be disruptive and hit the three-ball, the Wings will have a good shot.
