Tottenham vs Aston Villa Prediction
Tottenham vs Aston Villa Prediction: Tottenham Hotspurs will host Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 19th at 6:00 pm EST. In Harry Kane’s first game after being linked to rumors that he wants to leave the club and Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea waiting to sign the star striker, Tottenham will look to keep their Champions League fight alive.
Aston Villa on the other hand will look to end the decent season on a strong note. They have only won one of their past five, and have not been in the form that brought them to 11th in the table as of recent. Matty Cash for Aston Villa is sidelined while Gareth Bale is doubtful and Serge Aurier should be making his return into the starting lineup Wednesday.
Tottenham Hotspurs: Way to Win
Attacking as a team will be how Tottenham dominate this game. They succeeded under Mourinho a fair bit with their strong counter-attack that focused on getting the ball at the foot of their pacey and talented wingers and Ryan Mason has not changed much since then.
However, with the talented Harry Kane up top, getting him on the ball to hold it and let midfielders join the attack will be key. Even having Kane drop deeper into midfield to really lead the play himself will be important. As long as Kane and Son stay involved and make themselves known on the field, they will do well.
The defense is solid for the most part with Reguilon and Hojberg being fantastic additions to hold down the defense and raise the consistency of their play. Silly mistakes have been rid of for the most part.
Aston Villa: Way to Win
Aston Villa just suffered a tough defeat to Crystal Palace while at home and it all comes down to their inability to play a full 90 minutes. Aston Villa have the tools to compete with the Spurs and quite frankly, dominate this game. Spurs have been known to play sloppy soccer and let less talented teams control the tempo. However, Villa have dropped 14 points after being in winning positions in their last seven games.
Villa getting an early goal would take them a decent way to a win, but they need to hold onto that lead for the first time in a while if they really want to win. Not getting complacent and keeping their defensive shape for two full halves gives Aston Villa the win.
This is Aston Villa’s final away game and the last time they won their final away game was 2010. In fact, that was their only time winning their final away game in the last eighteen seasons. If history has it, Aston Villa is going to come out to this game asleep and nonchalant.
That cannot happen if they want to compete. Tottenham is not a team you can go through the motions with, and a win comes from grit. Tottenham tends to begin games asleep, so fast and strong from the start to set the tone will give Aston Villa a much needed boost.
Tottenham vs. Aston Villa: Prediction
With all the drama around Harry Kane and questionable morale in the locker room following those rumors and a new manager, the Spurs feel prone to a fluke here, but I don’t make predictions based on flukes and Tottenham is still the stronger and more consistent team.
Not to mention Aston Villa have lost twelve of their thirteen meetings with Tottenham with the last time being 2015.
