Why the New York Jets Will Be The Most Interesting Team in the 2021/22 NFL Season
Is the 2nd coming of Joe Namath finally here? Zack Wilson, the 2nd pick of the 2021 NFL draft out of BYU has a lot of pressure on him.
Being a quarterback in New York is always tough. The media is always around and it gets distracting and put in players’ heads.
New York Jets: A Whole New Team
The New York Jets do not look like the 2020 New York Jets. Firstly, Adam Gase is not the coach anymore which Jets fans were praying for months.
Step in Rob Saleh, the first Muslim head coach in NFL history. Saleh was the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and is all about “All Gas No Brakes”. Saleh has changed so much already in his short time in New York.
Drafting Zach Wilson, trading up for Alijah Vera-Tucker and getting Elijah Moore somehow in the 2nd round in the 2021 NFL draft. With these 3 great pickups and, arguably, all top 15 prospects in the draft will change this Jets team very positively
The Jets also got some good free agents including Corey Davis, a wide receiver who last played for the Titans. Carl Lawson from the Bengals, Lamarcus Joyner, and Sheldon Rankins to boost up the Jets defense.
Knowing How to Turn a Team Around
Rob Saleh knows how to get the best out of his players with his energetic coaching style. In the 2018 season, Saleh and the 49ers had one of the worst records in the NFL going 4-12. The following season the 49ers went 13-3 and lost in the Super Bowl. That turnaround is huge and it is what Coach Saleh is trying to do with the Jets.
The way Saleh does this is his coaching style. He gets his players very amped up and coaches as hard as the players play on the field.
Mike LaFleur, the New York Jets offensive coordinator came over with Saleh from San Francisco. The younger brother of Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur, will be using a Shannahan-type offense and is excited with a lot of the talent on this New York Jets roster. LaFleur, also on the 49ers coaching staff, knows how to win games.
With the turnaround that the 49ers did and no one expecting that from them in the 2019 season, Jets fans should be optimistic about Saleh as the coach.
Schedule
The New York Jets are in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills are one of the best teams in the NFL, the Miami Dolphins are a great young team and you can never count out Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. They need to face off against these teams twice throughout the season and will need to win a few games if they want to have a chance to make the playoffs.
There are many games on the schedule that can go both ways for the Jets including basically all division matchups excluding Buffalo away, Panthers, Broncos, Falcons, Colts, Eagles, Saints and Jaguars. In all of these games I can see the Jets winning and losing.
Record
Like I stated above, there are many different projections of the New York Jets record. There is a possibility that they go 2-15 or 3-14 or there is a chance they can go 11-5. I do not think you can say this for any other team in the NFL.
My current prediction is that they are going to 7-10. Winning against the Texans, Jaguars, Panthers, Patriots, Dolphins, Falcons, and Eagles.
