Taphorn’s Twelve Pack: NFL Week 6

Taphorn’s Twelve Pack: NFL Week 6 – Here’s your weekly twelve pack of NFL betting advice, drink at your own risk. Crack open six bets that I like and six bets that I don’t and pray for a great weekend without a hangover.

Week 5 Record: 3-2-1; +1.0 units; Year-to-date Record: 19-10-1; +7.0 units

6 Bets I Like

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -6.5 at Philadelphia Eagles

Brady and the champs are rolling. The secondary has been banged up, but I’m not sure Philly has the passing attack to effectively challenge Tampa. The wild card here is the Eagles’ interior defensive line. Hargraves and Cox may be the best duo in the league and Brady hates pressure up the middle. Still like the Bucs here though. Bet amount: 1 unit.

Green Bay Packers -4.5 at Chicago Bears

Aaron Rodgers McCaskey. Or it may as well be. Rodgers owns the Bears, and anything less than a touchdown feels appropriate here. Bet amount: 2 units.

Los Angeles Chargers at Baltimore Ravens over 51.5 total points

These two teams played in the two most exciting games this weekend and both have quarterbacks squarely in the mix of the early season MVP conversation. The Justin Herbert vs Lamar Jackson show should provide plenty of points. Bet amount: 2 units.

Cincinnati Bengals -3.5 at Detroit Lions

The poor Detroit Lions. They’ve faced heartbreak in almost every game this year, and last week was no different. Joe Burrow and company had Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on the mat and let them back up in a game with more missed kicks than an Alabama special teams’ practice. Bet amount: ½ unit.

Los Angeles Rams -10.5 at New York Giants

The Giants lost their quarterback, running back, wide receiver, left tackle, water boy, shoe shiner and the bus driver last week against the Cowboys. And the game. Joe Judge’s team is 1-4 to start the year and battling as many injuries as any team in the league. What’s not great for a back up offense? Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey. Bet amount: ½ unit.

Dallas Cowboys -4 at New England Patriots

The Cowboys are on a four-game win streak and are punishing teams with Zeke Elliott and Tony Pollard while Dak Prescott dissects secondaries. Dan Quinn’s defense has multiple takeaways in every game this year, in large part due to Trevon Diggs’ six interceptions.

The Patriots fell behind to the Texans a week ago and let Davis Mills throw for nearly 300 yards last week, not a good omen with the team coming to Foxborough this week. Bet amount: 1 unit.

6 Bets to Avoid

Miami Dolphins at Jacksonville Jaguars +3.5

If not for Florida State and Miami this would be the worst in-state football game of the year. Good news for Jags fans, Urban Myer doesn’t have a flight home to miss.

Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts -9.5

Just a casual AFC South matchup of two teams that gave up two touchdown leads in Week 5. I don’t trust the Colts to hold on to a double-digit lead to cover this game, but they shouldn’t have a problem winning it.

Minnesota Vikings -1 at Carolina Panthers

The biggest question in this game will be for fantasy football fans, and that’s whether Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey will play. The Vikings narrowly escaped with a win against the Lions while the Panthers gave up a late lead to the Eagles. Sam Darnold has matched his five rushing touchdowns with five interceptions in the past two weeks and needs to shake off those Adam Gase ghosts and return to playing winning football.

Arizona Cardinals at Cleveland Browns -3

The lone undefeated team takes on a Browns team that gave up 50 points to Justin Herbert and the Chargers in a Week 5 loss. If Myles Garrett can catch Kyler Murray the Cleveland defense could cause issues, but that’s easier said than done.

Las Vegas Raiders at Denver Broncos -3.5

Two teams that started 3-0 and have dropped two straight games. Which team can get back on track and keep chase with the first place Chargers?

Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers -4.5

No Russell Wilson for the first time in nearly ten years for the Seahawks. The defense has been abysmal, and the running game hasn’t been stellar. Can Geno Smith keep the boat afloat until Russ gets back or will the Seahawks give the Jets a high draft pick?
