Rookie Quarterback Betting Odds
Five quarterbacks were taken in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft. Trevor Lawrence, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones were all taken in the first round and all of them are expected to make an impact on their teams.
Rookie Of The Year Odds
According to Draft Kings, Lawrence is the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year at +300. Lance comes with the second-best odds at +600. Fields is right behind Lance at +700. Wilson and Jones are sitting at +800 odds to win the award.
The Favorite
It makes sense that Lawrence is the favorite to win the award. He is one of the most hyped prospects to enter the league and many people think he will be one of the league’s best quarterbacks in the future. Lawrence was drafted first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars are a bad team and this is an advantage Lawrence has for winning the award. Playing on a bad team will give Lawrence the freedom to just let the ball loose. He will be allowed to play through mistakes and encouraged to keep slinging the ball after bad throws. He will be playing from behind a lot, which will give him plenty of opportunities to throw the ball and put up big numbers. If he stays healthy, Lawrence has a great shot at being named Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The ‘Others’
Wilson is the only other rookie quarterback that will be guaranteed to have a starting spot. The Jets just traded Sam Darnold, signed receiver Corey Davis and drafted receiver Elijah Moore. They will give Wilson full control over the offense and seem to be committed to surrounding him with weapons. The other three quarterbacks; Lance, Fields, and Jones will all be competing with competent veteran quarterbacks for the starting job. While all three are expected to take over the starting role at some point in the season, all of their teams will be looking to compete for a playoff spot and might be hesitant to throw in a rookie with no NFL experience.
If one of these quarterbacks can take over as the starter and lead their team to a solid record, they’ll have a chance to upset Lawrence for the award. More wins and decent stats might be enough to win the award compared to Lawrence if he puts up better stats but fewer wins. It should be a tight race that fluctuates week to week. All five of these players have a lot of potentials and will come into the league looking to establish themselves as a solid NFL quarterback.
