Reviewing the Betting Odds for Aaron Rodgers’ Next Team
While this year’s free agency class is loaded with top tier talent, no player will be receiving more coverage on their 2022 team than Aaron Rodgers. It is no secret that Rodgers has been considering leaving the Packers since last offseason, and a multitude of fan bases have been begging for the services of the hall-of-famer.
Las Vegas, however, still has the Green Bay Packers as a -250 favorite to retain the quarterback. However, there remains a large possibility Rodgers leaves the green and yellow. This article will cover the other teams with the best betting odds to acquire Aaron Rodgers, and my pick for where he will go.
Denver Broncos (+350)
Besides Green Bay, the team with the highest odds to acquire Aaron Rodgers is the Denver Broncos. Denver has a plethora of young playmakers, most notably Jerry Jeudy and standout rookie Javonte Williams. The team needs a quarterback in order to compete with teams such as Kansas City and Los Angeles in the AFC west, and Rodgers can give them a chance to do just that.
Defensively, Denver is a young, yet above average unit highlighted by safety Jonathon Simmons and edge rusher Bradley Chubb. Also, new coach Nathaniel Hackett is Rodgers’ former offensive coordinator, and has developed a great relationship with Rodgers over the years.
Aaron Rodgers and the 49ers have been connected since the team passed up on him with the 1st overall pick in 2006.San Francisco 49ers (+800)
A team Rodgers has been associated with for years, the San Francisco 49ers provide Rodgers with a championship roster and elite coaching. The team has made two conference championships and one Super Bowl in the past three seasons, all with minimal production from quarterback Jimmy Garropolo in playoff games.
While a Rodgers-49ers pairing would surely put the team in title contention, it does not make too much sense due to the drafting of quarterback Trey Lance in the 2021 draft. According to reports, Shanahan remains committed to the North Dakota State product, and is their quarterback of the future.
While destination makes sense on its face, Rodgers will likely not be heading to the Bay Area for the 2022-23 season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1400)
Now this would be interesting. After the retirement of Tom Brady this offseason, Tampa Bay still has a top tier roster, but now lacks a quarterback to bring it all together. The team has openly stated they will make an aggressive run at the top quarterbacks available in the offseason, and while Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson are intriguing, no option is better than the 4x MVP.
In this case, Rodgers would join a team with an elite wide receiver and a number of great skill position players when healthy. He will also inherit a top three NFL defense, something Rodgers never had in Green Bay.
Overall, Tampa Bay would be a great fit and has great betting value at +1400.
My Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers (+1200)
If I was Aaron Rodgers, there is no destination I would prioritize over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is a franchise with a rich history and a roster that can immediately compete for a championship if Rodgers is inserted into the lineup.
This is a Steelers team that managed to make the playoffs in 2021 despite Ben Roethlisberger’s notable struggles in his final season. Hall-of-Fame coach Mike Tomlin is the perfect coach to pair with Rodgers, as he is a player’s coach who is no stranger to dealing with off-field drama.
On the field, Pittsburgh’s offense contains multiple young, elite playmakers such as Najee Harris, Pat Friermuth, and Diontae Johnson. While the offensive line is below average, it will likely be addressed heavily in the offseason.
Rodgers will also inherit a top tier defense, highlighted by Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick. At +1200 odds, this longshot could very well happen.
