Max Johnson Gets The Nod For Texas A&M

Texas A&M looks to rebound after an embarrassing loss. Coach Fisher hopes a new QB, Max Johnson, will be the solution.

Max Johnson Gets The Nod For Texas A&M

Aggie fans were left in shock as Appalachian State University rolled into College Station and upset Texas A&M 17-14. Jimbo Fisher is feeling the heat from fans after two weeks of underwhelming football. Fisher hopes a change of pace at QB could make the difference for Texas A&M.

With the App State loss fans struggle to reason Fisher’s contract extension till 2031 worth around $95 million. Fisher who is a decent 35-15 while at Texas A&M still however is far from the championship aspirations both fans and he had when he left Florida State for College Station. Fisher now turns to Junior transfer QB Max Johnson from Athens, Georgia to run his offense in an attempt to turn around the season.

King’s Royal Struggles

Haynes King had an absolutely abysmal game last week against App State, going 13-20 for a measly 97 yards. The former 4-star recruit had issues in the first game of the season as well, when the Sam Houston State Bearkats (yes Bearkats) were able to snag 2 INTs.

There was much hype surrounding the starter coming out of camp and for good reason. In high school, the guy threw for 82 TDs to 17 INTs and was one of Texas’ top prospects. However, in his Sophomore season, things just haven’t turned out the way anyone was hoping.

Max Johnson

Max Johnson the transfer from LSU will be the guy getting the nod on Saturday as the Miami Hurricanes come to College Station in a clash of two ranked teams. Johnson though new to Texas A&M is not new to being the starter.

Last year Johnson was the starter for LSU and had a decent season completing 60.3% of his passes for 2,815 yards and 27 TDs to only 6 INTs. Johnson s an experienced player who looks to be a suitable replacement for the younger King who still looks to need time to adjust to the speed of the college game fully.

Fisher, whose offense notoriously needs stellar QB play, will get a player who can mentally go through the progressions but at times has shown to take too much time in the process as last year he took 33 sacks. Johnson also had a habit at times of underthrowing his targets.

Wrap Up

Miami was coming in the underdog and will likely remain that way though I do expect the spread to lower a little with new bets now taking this change into consideration. Look for people to try and make plays relying on Miami’s lack of prep for the new kid or a more high-functioning offense from Texas A&M which I find to be more likely. Watch for movement in the point totals as this shake-up should move it a little.

This shake-up adds drama to the fire that has been Texas A&M football so far this season. Expect an absolute treat of the game. Regardless of where you put your money be sure to tune into this clash of top 25 teams Saturday at 9 pm ET.
