Fight Preview
Jermall “Hit-Man” Charlo was last in action in September 2020, when he was victorious by a unanimous decision against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Charlo who is the WBC 160-pound titleholder is going into this fight as a huge favorite against Juan “Juanito” Montiel.
Montiel is coming off a first-round knockout victory over James Kirkland in December 2020. Montiel has been in big fights before, Jamie Munguia(2017) and Huge Centeno Jr (2019) but was unsuccessful both times.
This is a true “puncher’s chance” fight, as Montiel has world-class punching power. Charlo isn’t overlooking his opponent despite being the heavy favorite with bigger fights on the horizon. Charlo commented on his respect for Montiel’s power, “He’s strong in both hands. I’m going to have to fight fire with fire.” Will Charlo dominate or will the third time be the charm for Montiel?
My Prediction
Charlo shows respect for Montiel’s power early but stops him within 6 rounds.
Saturday, June 19 2021 – Las Vegas, Nevada
Naoya Inoue vs. Michael Dasmarinas
Naoya Inoue
- Boxing Record: 20-0, 17 Knockouts
- Best Betting Odds: -2000(William Hill)
Michael Dasmarinas
- Boxing Record: 30-2-1, 20 Knockouts
- Best Betting Odds: +1565(SportBet)
Fight Preview
This will be Michael’s “Hot and Spicy” Dasmarinas first fight on US soil when he takes on the “Monster” Naoya Inoue. Dasmarinas arrived in the US two weeks before the fight to train at the famous Wild Card Gym with Freddie Roach.
He is doing all the right things in order to pull off the upset, but he may be in over his head with his biggest win coming in via KO in 2018 (Karim Guerfi 26-3). Inoue is a three-weight world champion and current unified bantamweight champion. At 118 pounds, Don’t let his size fool you, this is a bad man!
You can teach boxing, but power is a natural gift, in Inoue you have the best of both worlds. Dasmarinas will look to mimic what is Filipino countryman Nonito Donaire did a few weeks back when he became the oldest bantamweight champion at 38 years old.
My Prediction
KO victory for Inoue, setting up a rematch with Nonito Donaire.
Saturday, June 19 2021 – Jalisco, Mexico
Anderson Silva vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Anderson Silva
- Boxing Record: 1-1, 1 Knockout
- Best Betting Odds: +320(William Hill)
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
- Boxing Record: 52-5-1, 34 Knockouts
- Best Betting Odds: -455(William Hill)
Fight Preview
Unlike many of the MMA/Boxing crossover fights we have seen as of late this fight will not be under exhibition rules. This will be an eight-round fight under normal boxing rules between MMA legend Anderson “Spider” Silva and former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
This will be Silva’s first boxing match since 2005, which ended in him being knocked out. Being 46 years old and coming off three consecutive losses in his MMA career, it’s hard to visualize Silva resurrecting his career in a new sport.
On the undercard, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr (58yrs old) will take on Hector Camacho Jr (42). Camacho Junior is the son of the late Hector “Macho” Camacho, who was Chavez Senior’s arch-rival in the boxing ring. Interesting fight card which is billed as a “Tribute to the Kings”.
My Prediction
Chavez Jr’s experience in the boxing ring will be too much for Anderson. Anderson will have his moments, landing shots, and entertain the crowd with some of his famous antics. Chavez TKO after 4 rounds.
My Betting Ticket
- Charlo/Montiel, Either fighter wins between Rounds 1-6 -150
- Naoya Inoue wins between Rounds 4-6 +175
- Parlay Payout +358
