College World Series Picks and Predictions
The College World Series is here and with the premier teams set to face off in Omaha starting on Saturday here is a complete breakdown of who you should pick to be crowned champion.
With top-overall seed Arkansas getting upset in the super regional against NC State the remaining eight teams seem to be pretty evenly matched.
The final eight teams are Vanderbilt, Arizona, Tennessee, VIrginia, Texas and Stanford, NC State and Mississippi State.
Our College World Series Picks and Predictions are here to give you a better look at the show!
North Carolina State vs. Stanford
Stanford has flown under the radar all season, but they dominated Texas Tech in the regionals by a combined score of 24-3, plus it feels like the highlight of NC State’s Cinderella run was beating Arkansas, who was the best team all season.
The Stanford offense will be too much for the Wolfpack pitching to overcome in the long run.
Arizona vs. Vanderbilt
A matchup between two of the sports’ best programs over the last decade, this should be a good series.
Arizona is going to be the best team that Vanderbilt has played in the postseason, but it’s just too hard to bet against two of the best starting pitchers in the sport, Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter. Both are expected to be top-10 picks in the MLB Draft.
Arizona does have a potent offense that doesn’t rely on the home run, so if they are able to get some hits in the gap this could get interesting, but side with Rocker — who is a complete gamer.
Virginia vs. Tennessee
Virginia was able to overcome a really ugly start to the season, which included an 11-14 March record, but Tennessee has been one of the best teams in the country all season. The Volunteers have a quality lineup and the one-two punch of Blade Tidwell and Chad Dallas on the mound will be tough for Virginia to overcome.
Mississippi State vs. Texas
Mississippi State is blessed with having some of the best fans in college baseball. They broke attendance records last weekend in their regional at Dudy Noble Field North, but will the Bulldogs have a strong fan base in Omaha?
Mississippi State has been up and down a lot in the past few weeks and with Texas being the highest-seeded team left in the tournament, it’s hard to pick against the Longhorns.
Likely top-10 MLB Draft choice Ty Madden gives the Longhorns as good of a chance on the mound as anyone in college baseball.
National Champion
We seem to be on a crash course for Vanderbilt and Texas. The new power of the sport and one of the game’s greatest programs ever. Can’t think of a better way to end things in Omaha than a Commodores and Longhorns matchup.
If Kumar Rocker and Lack Leiter are able to get the Commodores to the National Championship it’s going to be hard to bet against Tim Corbin’s club. Pitching tends to win games in Omaha and no team all season has been able to match the one-two punch of Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter. In fact, no team in the country has beaten both Rocker and Leiter in the same weekend all season.
Texas is the highest-seeded team remaining, but if they are forced to line up across the field from Vanderbilt, the Commodores are going to be back-to-back national champions.
This clearly a pick based on the belief that two of the best pitchers in the sport will continue to have legendary seasons and that the Vanderbilt offense will be able to provide enough run support in four consecutive games. Bet on the Vandy Boys.
