Toledo Rockets
MAC Basketball: The Toledo Rockets currently hold the best record in the MAC were facing a struggling
Western Michigan Broncos. Toledo is sitting at the top of the conference Western Michigan is near the bottom. The Broncos had a tall task as they were up against the best three-point shooting team in the conference.
Western Michigan started off 1-7 in conference play before picking up consecutive wins over Bowling Green and Central Michigan. The Broncos were up against a team that is 105th in opponent’s effective field goal percentage.
Toledo is known to give up many second-chance opportunities as well. The Broncos were held to a mediocre 28.8 percent field goal percentage. This was the worst performance against the Toledo defense this season.
However, the Rockets outrebounded 45-29 in a one-sided matchup. Toledo had five players in double figures with Marreon leading the way with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
The game was essentially over in the first half as the Rockets outscored the Broncos Toledo led 54-16 going into the break. Both teams set their season records in terms of their first-half scores with the Broncos having the lowest team total before the half and vice-versa for the Rockets.
The Rockets improved to 2-0 against the Broncos with a dominating 91-44 win and remain on top in the MAC.
Kent State
The Kent State Golden Flashes had two games last. One was against Ball State and the other was against Miami Ohio.
Kent State was on a four-game winning streak but had a difficult time stopping Ball State throughout the whole game. Surprisingly, Ball State did not look like the team that lost have lost six of their last seven games with their last win coming on February 6th.
The Golden Flashes couldn’t stop Jarron Coleman from scoring as he had a career-high 26 points. Ball State put up a total of 57 points at the half and won the game 90-71.
They played their second game in Miami Ohio. They definitely turned things around this game as they had three players in double figures. Tervell Beck led the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
His teammate Danny Pippen followed with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Justyn Hamilton added to the total with a solid performance, 14 points, and 7 rebounds.
This looked like the team everyone in the MAC is accustomed to as they beat the Miami Ohio Redhawks 64-51. They are currently a few games ahead of Buffalo for the second seed in the MAC.
Buffalo Bulls
The third-place team on this list is the Buffalo Bulls who played three games last week. They faced Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, and Ohio.
Josh Mballa had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Jeenathan Williams had 18 points with eight rebounds that contributed to the blowout. LaQuill Hardnett added 16 points and Jayvon Graves had 13 points along with seven rebounds.
It was the first time the team scored 100 points this season. The last place Huskies were no match for the Bulls.
Against Central Michigan, it was pretty much a similar story. The Chippewas defense is known to give up a lot of points as they trailing by 40 at halftime and put up 18 on the board themselves.
Hardnett had a career-high 20 points plus 10 rebounds. Graves added 15 points while Segu put up a stat line of 14 points and 11 assists.
Lastly, against Ohio, they were able to win by 20 points due to Mballa’s scoring ability as he put up 23 points. The Bulls were able to level the season series at one a piece against the Bobcats who beat them by one last time. With that win, the team had a three-game winning streak.
