Ukraine vs England Prediction
The last match of the quarter-finals is between Ukraine and England. The kickoff is on Saturday, July 3 at 3:00 pm EST. England is coming off a much needed win against Germany that surely will give them confidence going into this match against Ukraine. Ukraine just beat Sweden 2-1 in extra time in a tight match where Ukraine went up a man late in the game and scored within the 120th minute. Fatigue will be a factor to both of these teams, who have played long seasons and had a long tournament. But, this is crunch time and the fight to the semi-finals is on. England’s Ways to Win
England have their defense figured out; they haven’t given up a goal all tournament. Pickford, Stones, and Maguire are really rock solid. However, they are far from putting it all together up front. Harry Kane is finally on the score sheet, although he really didn’t do much to get that goal. Sterling is providing the team with some much-needed energy, but with all the depth up front, maybe benching Kane is a wise move.
Either way, individual blame does not fix the fact that England are not shooting. Of the final eight teams, England has taken the least amount of shots per possession. England’s opponents are taking a lot more shots, but they aren’t scoring, so that says something. Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. England will win if they shoot. It would be one thing if England couldn’t get the ball into the attacking third, but they can. They just struggle greatly with shooting. They have to be more direct and test out Bachchan.
Ukraine’s Ways to Win
Ukraine has not had the toughest Euro campaign so far. They have had to play well to make it through, but they faced one especially strong team all tournament in the Netherlands and lost 3-2. With that said, most of their wins have been individual show. Andriy Yarmolenko of West Ham and Zinchenko of Manchester City are doing a lot of work.
Ukraine needs to play as a complete team and do so well. They have relied on individual skill against weaker teams than England, but this England team will match them player for player more than any other squad Ukraine has faced. Yarmolenko won’t be able to make magic happen all game, he needs a supporting cast.
Ukraine vs England Prediction
Although England hasn’t had the best tournament, their talent is undeniable. Ukraine has slipped through the cracks into the quarter-finals. They have earned their wins, but they are not of the caliber as the rest of the final eight. England has a fire under them now, and it will come out in this Ukraine game. This is a great opportunity for England to build on their success and ride into the semi-finals playing better than they ever have. The energy in the attack will be there whether it comes from Sterling, Grealish, or someone else, and it will be despite Harry Kane’s lethargic play. England will go another game without giving up a goal as Ukraine’s magic won’t make it through this matchup, sending England into the final four.
