All English Champions League Final Prediction

The biggest trophy in all of soccer is up for grabs on May 23 with kick-off at 3:00 pm EST. Chelsea comes off of a big result in the final matchday despite their own 2-0 loss to a pretty mediocre Aston Villa side. They have squeaked their way into a top four spot after really turning their season around with the sacking of Lampard and the hiring of Tuchel. Chelsea have been playing a lot, and I mean a lot, better.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are just the most dominant team in all of England without any doubt. One of the highest paid rosters results in a tremendously solid defense and a threatening offense that is being helped out greatly by the young homegrown talent in Phil Foden. After clinching the Premier League with plenty of match days left, they will look to add another trophy to their cabinet.

Chelsea Way to Win

Chelsea needs to find some way to stop the City attack. Tuchel needs to understand the Pep Guardiola style of soccer that will get the ball wide and attack with great pace. Getting Kante and Mendi back will be integral. Without Kante, I think Chelsea will have a difficult time beating Manchester City. Kante is brilliant in his ability to control the midfield defensively, standing strong in front of the back four. They were missing this against Aston Villa and were not playing like a team that should win the Champions League final.

Kante even brings the ball into attack really well and adds an extra man into the attacking third with deft handling. With Kante back and sending Pulisic, Mount, and Werner off into the attack where Chelsea will show off their crazy quick attack, Chelsea will be ruthless.

Manchester City Way to Win

Manchester City needs to get the ball to their talented wingers, and continue to counter-attack with ruthless speed. Getting the ball to Foden, Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and De Bruyne, and letting them run at defenses is a surefire way to score goals and win games. They have a stalwart defense which is never particularly anything to worry about; they are a brick wall with Ederson in net.

City needs to not make the same mistake they made earlier this month and give up late goals. Surely they would know better than to get complacent in the arguably most important game of their season, but 90 minutes is a long game, and fatigue sets in when the adrenaline crashes. They need to lock in for a full game. They have the talent to win and they have the talent to win handily—they just need to do it the entire time.

Champions League Final: Prediction

These two teams have met up fairly recently. May 8 saw the two teams in blue face off in the late stages of the Premier League and while Manchester City went up early with a Sterling goal, Chelsea took two back with one of them coming in the 90th minute. Although Chelsea took that first victory, the form the two teams have been combined with the stage will give Manchester City the edge. If this season has taught us anything, it’s that nobody has gotten an answer for Manchester City on a long-term basis and this Champions League Final will be no different.

Prediction: Manchester City 3 Chelsea 2
