Eastern Michigan Football Preview
Eastern Michigan football and head coach Chris Creighton may be is some trouble this year winning some games. The returning roster only has one pass attempt returning among quarterbacks. However, transfer Taylor Powell has been brought in from Missouri with some experience. If he can’t get the job done, then it is likely that Austin Smith is next in line to accept the challenge.
Four receivers return, which is great news for the Eagles. Bassan Heyoun will be searching for another 1000 yard season. The run game has been lackluster and will hang on with Darius Boone and Samson Evans getting the most carries. That will be hinging on the interior line offense which was porous last season.
The defense in 2021 allowed alot of points per game but with experience from Jose Ramirez who has 6.5 tackles and 12 TFL’s along with leading tackler Tariq Speights returning this team should show improvement in 2022.
The kicking game will be handed to freshman Jesus Gomez, who was highly recruited. The punter game is yet to be decided. Field goal kickers Jake Julen and Chad Ryland were both second team ALL-MAC selections.
The schedule will be a challenge for coach Creighton who has won six game in four of his eight seasons as the head man in Ypsilanti. Contests with Eastern Kentucky opens the season at home. Week 2 see them on the road against Louisiana followed by a road game at Arizona Stare, Conference wins will be a tough road for them and look for the Eagles. Look for them to finish 4-8 on the year and 2-5 within the MAC.
