Five College Football Teams to Bet on this Weekend

College football is off to a crazy start, as two top six teams, Oklahoma and defending national champion LSU, suffered home losses to unranked teams last Saturday. As we enter another week in college football, here are five college football teams to bet on this Saturday in college football.

Auburn at Georgia (-7.5)

The No. 7 Tigers travel to Athens to take on the No. 4 team in the country, Georgia. When these two teams met last season, Georgia held on for a 21-14 victory. However, these are two completely different teams, and luckily for the Tigers, they know who their quarterback is.

Sophomore Bo Nix got the 2020 season off to a good start, as he threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns in a win against Kentucky last weekend. Nix can also make plays with his feet, as he averaged 5.8 yards per carry.

As if Nix’s talent wasn’t enough, the Tigers also have one of the top receiving duos in the country, in potential first-round pick Seth Williams (six catches, 112 yards, two touchdowns) and arguably the fastest player in the country, Anthony Schwartz.

While Auburn is set at the quarterback position, the Bulldogs enter this game with zero idea who their quarterback is going to be. Coach Kirby Smart said that up to four guys could be the starter, with USC transfer J.T. Daniels coming back from a major injury.

If you look at the final score of Georgia’s game last week, it doesn’t show the issues the Bulldogs had on offense. Georgia trailed 7-5 against a bad Arkansas team at the half, and only rushed for 121 yards on 42 carries in the game.

There are way too many unknowns with that Georgia offense, and this is a chance for the Tigers to make an early-season statement. Not only does Nix start a potential dark horse Heisman run by leading Auburn to a cover, the Tigers will head back home with a victory over Georgia.

Auburn 34, Georgia 24

Mississippi State (-17.5) at Arkansas

It was only one week, but wasn’t watching Mike Leach in the SEC fun? It took Leach one game coaching in the SEC to have his quarterback break a single-game passing record, as Stanford transfer K.J. Costello threw for 623 yards and five touchdowns in an upset against defending national champion LSU.

With that victory and excitement, the Bulldogs are going to come into this game ready to roll against the aforementioned Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas may be worse this year than it was last season, a season in which it lost home games to San Jose State (31-24) and Western Kentucky (45-19).

While Arkansas competed for a half against Georgia last week, that was more of an issue with the Bulldogs offense. Unfortunately for the Razorbacks, this week’s Bulldogs are on a different level on offense.

Mississippi State 52, Arkansas 24

TCU at Texas (-11.5)

This is a very interesting game, as the Horned Frogs are coming off a 37-34 loss to Iowa State. The Longhorns are coming off a crazy 63-56 overtime win against Texas Tech. This is a well-hyped rivalry that, in all reality, hasn’t been very competitive recently.

Since 2012, the average point differential in this game has been 24 points, with only last year’s game being 10 points or closer. With Oklahoma’s shocking loss to Kansas State last Saturday, the Longhorns have a golden opportunity to show they’re the class of the Big 12.

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger is one of the best leaders in all of college football. He has steadily improved during his time at Texas and has thrown for 688 yards and 10 touchdowns in the first two games.

We have seen this story before, with Texas potentially “being back.” For Ehlinger, this is his last run as a Longhorn, and he shows Saturday he’s ready to roll.

Texas 55, TCU 31

LSU (-20.5) at Vanderbilt

The post-Joe Burrow era for LSU got off to a disastrous start, as the defending national champions were defeated by Mississippi State. The defense was historically bad, as the Tigers gave up an SEC-record 623 passing yards.

However, there was a missing piece and not just a small one. All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. was out due to sickness but will be back on Saturday. He is a player who was widely considered the best defensive back in the country last season, so you can’t understate his value to the team.

While that return is big, his team will be facing a Vanderbilt team coming off a loss to Texas A&M in a very competitive game. The Commodores start a freshman at quarterback in Ken Seals, who showed tremendous heart and grit in the start against the Aggies.

However, it was the defensive performance that should have Vanderbilt’s fans excited. The defense did a tremendous job in shutting down quarterback Kellen Mond, who threw for only 189 yards for the Aggies.

This week, Vanderbilt announced there would be limited student-section access to the game. Will that group help inspire the team to a victory? Not exactly.

LSU has too much pride and will be motivated to right the ship. However, expect the Vanderbilt defense to help the team stay in it for much of the night, with the Tigers eventually pulling a way for a hard-fought victory.

LSU 27, Vanderbilt 17

Kansas State (-2) at Texas Tech

If you had checked on these teams at different points on Saturday, you would have thought this spread might be Texas Tech as a big favorite. After all, Kansas State was down 21 points to Oklahoma in the second half, while Texas Tech was up 15 points in the fourth against Texas.

However, what ensued after that was pure chaos. The Wildcats made a stunning comeback, while the Red Raiders blew what seemed like an insurmountable lead. How will Texas Tech respond?

The Red Raiders had in their grasp what could have been a program-defining victory. Instead, they are asking themselves what might have been.

It’s a different mindset for Kansas State, as the Wildcats showed grit and determination bouncing back from a tough home loss in the opener to Arkansas State. Quarterback Skylar Thompson has been in many big situations for the Wildcats and will not allow his team to take a step back.

The Wildcats haven’t lost back-to-back home games since October of 2017, and that will not start on Saturday.
