2022 MLB Cy Young Award Betting Odds
With the MLB season heating up in mid-June the Cy Young award favorites are beginning to show themselves. In this article we are going to look at the 2022 Cy Young award favorites and sleepers, but first, a little history about the award
The award was established in 1956 and was named after Hall Of Fame pitcher for the Boston Red Sox Cy Young. The award is given out every year to the best pitcher of the American League and one to the best pitcher in the National League.
Last year the award was given to Robbie Ray of the Toronto Blue Jays for the AL and Corbin Burnes of the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL.
Favorites
Corbin Burnes– Burnes is set to repeat as the National Leagues Cy Young winner for the Brewers. His chances currently sit at +400 going into mid June. Burnes has an earned run average (ERA) of 2.50 which is pretty good considering he has only started eleven games. Burnes has 84 strikeouts so far this season, which puts him currently in third place out of all MLB pitchers in the strikeout statistics.
Justin Verlander– In the American League race at the top there sits Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros. At +450 Verlander holds the best odds in the AL so far, in second place there is Shane McClanahan of the Tampa Bay Rays. Verlander holds 73 strikeouts which places him outside of the top 10 in twelfth place.
Sleepers
A couple of good sleepers to keep an eye on would be….
Sandy Alcantara– Alcantara of the Miami Marlins currently sits in third place in the NL race with his odds at +600. The one downfall of Alcantara is that he plays on the Marlins. At 24-30 the Miami Marlins are just not that good of a team. However, Alcantara has 77 strikeouts through the first 54 games of the 2022 season. That puts him in the top 10 for strikeouts this season, seventh place to be exact.
Shane McClanahan– The previously mentioned McClanahan is a very dangerous sleeper right now. He has the lowest ERA in all of baseball currently at 1.87. He also has 98 strikeouts which puts him soundly in first place out of all pitchers. To be exact he has 14 more strikeouts than the second place pitcher, Aaron Nola of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Longshots
Dylan Cease– Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox may be a longshot but you should still keep him on your radar. Cease’s odds to win currently sit at +2000 which may seem like a lot but he is actually in seventh place in the AL for odds to win the Cy Young Award. Cease sits in fourth place in strikeouts with 81 and has an ERA of 3.39. Cease’s downfall is just like Sandy Alcantara’s, he is not on a good enough playoff quality team. The White Sox are currently 26-28 which puts them in third place in the AL Central.
Aaron Nola– The previously mentioned Aaron Nola of the Phillies is in twelfth place when it comes to odds to win. He is in second place in strikeouts with 85 and has an ERA of 3.50.
Conclusion
In conclusion to this article those are some players you might want to place your money on to win the 2022 Cy Young Award.
