DraftKings and Boston Bruins Announce Partnership

DraftKings Sportsbook announced late on Thursday that they have signed a new multi-year partnership deal with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. This will make DraftKings the official daily fantasy sports partner of the Bruins, and the exclusive presenting sponsor of the Boston Bruins Foundation charitable raffle.

Multi-Purpose Areana

DraftKings Sportsbook will also become the official sports betting partner of the Boston Bruins and TD Garden multi-purpose arena when sports betting becomes officially legal and fully launched in the state of Massachusetts.

Boston Bruins President Cam Neely expressed his excitement about the partnership in a statement on Thursday. “The Boston Bruins are excited to announce this new partnership with DraftKings, a Boston-based company that has established itself as the premier hub for daily fantasy sports,” he said, “We are looking forward to collaborating with DraftKings to continue to provide the best possible sports and entertainment experience for our fans at TD Garden.”

Ezra Kucharz, the DraftKings Sportsbook Chief Business Officer, seemed to be equally as enthusiastic about this huge partnership deal.

“We are thrilled to announce our latest team deal with the Boston Bruins, an exceptional team that like us is relentlessly focused on the fan,” he said, “I’m looking forward to seeing our partnership and branding greet fans wherever they are – online, through the premier Boston Bruins Foundation 50/50 raffle which galvanizes viewers while advancing fantastic charitable causes, and in-person, including with the iconic, supersized, digital LED billboard facing inbound traffic into Boston’s famed TD Garden.”

Strategic Digital and Social Media Content

According to the NHL website, the Bruins and DraftKings will execute strategic digital and social media content, with DraftKings takeovers of the Bruins homepage, app integration and digital linkages to the DraftKings suite of products. These two organizations will also partner to create and launch on a new fantasy betting and highlights series hosted on the Boston Bruins’ social media channels.

In addition to all of this, DraftKings Sportsbook will also be the only presenting sponsor of the Boston Bruins Foundation 50/50 Raffle, an online raffle promoted via social media and in person in the TD Garden arena during Bruins games. DraftKings will also get to advertise and place their branding logo throughout the arena.

DraftKings is a huge operator in the mobile sports betting industry. They currently operate that industry in a whopping 15 states. You can place a mobile bet on the DraftKings app in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

The Long Game

Though Massachusetts sports teams are clearly taking initiative to make sports betting and fantasy partnerships, the legalization of sports betting in the state is something that has, surprisingly, still not happened. It is highly unlikely that it will happen in 2021.

The delay in the legalization and launch of the sports betting industry in Massachusetts is only hurting everyone and everything involved. Bettors have been forced to physically travel to bordering states like Connecticut and New Hampshire in order to place legal wagers, which means that Massachusetts misses out on sports betting revenue, and bettors are majorly inconvenienced.

Even though the legalization of sports betting probably won’t happen this year, this partnership between DraftKings and the Boston Bruins is a huge deal for both parties. Hopefully, Massachusetts will legalize and launch sports betting soon so everybody can take advantage of the benefits.
